#JustFinished Project Hail Mary. Feel good story that’s a much needed mood boost in the darkest timeline. I think a bit overhyped on social media. It’s good, not life altering, but would recommend.

#JustFinished A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik. This is the third book of hers that I’ve read along with Spinning Silver and Uprooted. I’m a few years behind the times on this one clearly, but I’m glad I finally read it. I will definitely continue the series.

I took a few months off recreational reading since starting school in September. I managed to fit one last book in before the end of the year and I’m happy with it. My resolution for 2026 will be one book per month which I hope is reasonable enough to achieve between work and school!

August was another slow month for me and I fear September will be the same. Two books that I’m planning to read are CHONKY and I’ll be going back to school for the first time in over a decade and anticipate having no leisure time.

#JustFinished System Collapse, book 7 of The Murderbot Diaries. I’m sure this will shock no one, but my love for Murderbot grows with each book. I’m excited for book 8 which I just learned is coming out in May, but at the same time it feels entirely too far away.

July was a pretty blah month reading-wise for me. I had a few life things happen and kept having too much anxiety to focus. Hope I can turn it around in August especially since it will be my last free month before being in school for the first time in a decade!

#JustFinished Nuclear War: A Scenario. Good mix of history lessons and speculation. The story like format was pretty easy to read, though the subject matter is terrifying. Just when you think it can’t get any worse, there’s another chapter proving you wrong.

Finished my socks that accidentally pooled in a very cool way. I did have to run to my LYS and get more of the contrast yarn for the second toe, turns out 1 mini skein is not quite enough.

Obsidian is unimpressed.

#JustFinished The Grace Year. This was a difficult rating for me. I read it in a single weekend and wanted to like it but I didnt really like the direction it went in the second half. It started out with almost Hunger Games-like vibes and then took a big pivot. Hard to describe.

#Booksky June was a rough month, book wise. I had 3 DNFs which is a lot for me. Maybe that means I’m trying to branch out? Who knows. I also lost my streak due to being busy with work. Booo!

I think I’m going to start July with the next Murderbot entry. Hoping it’s as great as the previous one.

1. Alert, and please share widely. A lawyer at the ACLU has asked me to inform my transgender readers that they should NOT be applying for passports right now - the state department has not issued guidance to comply with the court order and they are urgently trying to get them to do so.
🧵
I am getting multiple reports that the Trump admin is NOT complying with the court order requiring passport updates for transgender people.

Some passport agencies are being told not to give trans people passports with their correct gender marker, for now.
#Trans folks in the US who are reapplying for their passport to be fixed. Don't bother. Just had an emergency appointment today (I travel on the 30th) and they cannot issue me a corrected #passport. All decisions regarding this 'issue' are on hold until they receive guidance from the head office.
