“This place could be beautiful,
Right? You could make this place beautiful.”

- Maggie Smith, Good Bones

I came across this poem when I read Maggie Smith’s book Dear Writer a few months back. It has stuck with me since then, and it kept coming to mind today, so I thought I would share.

I’m reading a book right now and just not vibing with it. I hate DNFing (esp if it’s an arc, like this one is) but…I think I’m gonna.

Anyone else feel guilty DNFing? I’m trying to get over it 😹 #booksky

June has felt like a surprisingly long month, and I got through way more books than I expected to 📚 I read a lot of gems this month, including a mix of new releases & a few off my TBR. There were also a few misses....

ICE just arrested Brad Lander, the NYC Comptroller and one of the leading candidates for Mayor, without grounds.

He was conducting routine immigration court work, escorting individuals from hearings.

He asked ICE for their warrant - well within his legal rights.

This is political intimidation.
Whoa! NYC mayoral candidate and current city Comptroller Brad Lander seemingly arrested at the NYC immigration court while attending to escort someone attending their hearing.
Lander just got detained by federal agents as he tried to escort a man out of the courtroom. Lander was taken in an elevator with masked agents, along with one member of his NYPD security detail.

This is not normal. A sitting president refusing to call the governor of a state after two elected officials were shot, one fatally, is beyond words. A typical president, regardless of politics, would pick up the phone. Offer condolences.

Trying to balance living life and posting my work while also staying informed and talking about issues that matter is…tough.

Trying to find little glimmers of joy in spite of the news is hard, but I think it’s important for our sanity. I know it is for mine, anyway.

What do you think?

Love this new Hill House Nap Dress style! I sized up in this one because it’s white and am happy with the fit. Great length for petites and it has pockets 🎉

Nothing says 'adulting' like getting excited over the prospect of a new kitchen sink.

I'm like...really excited lol

Started journaling to clear my mind. Ended up doodling flowers and wound up making my grocery list.

When it’s hot out, I keep my makeup light and easy -- think tinted SPF, brow gel, and a little blush. I rounded up my go-to summer beauty staples from Supergoop!, Kosas, and more 💚 These are the ones I reach for on repeat.

Why is laundry the worst of the sisyphean of household chores? Laundry is closely followed by dishes. They never end.

When I first got Louis, I had no idea what I needed to buy for him. I had the basics, sure, but also bought a lot of stuff that was basically useless 😹

I put together a free New Cat Checklist with the real essentials I wish I’d had back then.

My iced coffee is more of a ritual than a beverage at this point. If I don't have it in the morning, for whatever reason, the whole day feels off.

How similar is our taste in books? 📖✨️

I've enjoyed seeing some of my fav books lovers sharing this trend on IG, so I decided to try it out!

240 is the maximum points if you've read all of the books pictured here -- let me know what your score winds up being!
