The AI jobs crisis is not coming—it's here right now. It just might not look the way many thought it would.

I agree, the library is a great resource! You can get textbooks from there and yes, Mango is a much better alternative to Duolingo.

If you’re learning a language or plan to, I highly recommended buying physical textbooks. A lot of language learning apps are incorporating AI regardless of its inaccuracies. Even an older textbook is better than learning a language wrong.
This week, I spoke with one of the Duolingo contractors impacted by its 'new' AI strategy, and they clarified that

1) it's not new. Duolingo has *already* fired an estimated 100 writers and translators.

2) they worked for months training an AI system that still makes egregious mistakes.

Learning a language is never useless. Even if it’s not widely spoken. Learning a language opens you up to different cultures, different viewpoints, people.

In English, you may use A, B, C, D, and so on to name mystery or hypothetical objects or people (such as person A). In Mandarin, you may use 甲 (jiǎ), 乙 (yǐ), 丙 (bǐng), 丁 (dīng). What do you use in other languages? #langsky

This week on the blog! A little more Tolkien, this time a long look at how 'magic' and supernatural power function in The Lord of the Rings - and how what gets seen as 'magic' is simply an extension of the greater power of the Unseen spiritual world in Middle-earth.

This week, I want to keep unloading my Tolkien-related thoughts, turning from last week’s character study to a look at the way ‘magic’ and spiritual power work in Tolkien’s …

Knowing the roots of words is very useful because they often reveal how the spell functions and offer clues for how to break it. #etymology

Quite a lot of Filipinos mistakenly think that the Latin alphabet was imposed on us by the Spaniards, leading to the loss of the baybayin and allied scripts. That isn't really the case. We adopted the Latin script, or more accurately, our language grew out of baybayin.
