The #OnePlaceStudies blogging and social media prompt for this month, #OnePlaceAdverts has prompted me to post an article 'Advertising New Zealand in the 1870s' used to encourage emigrants on the Woodlark in 1874. app.weare.xyz/public/the-w...

An unwelcome surprise! Family Search have removed access to inquests from 1925 onwards in 'New Zealand Coroner's inquest reports, 1888-1938' so they are no longer available to view at home. The restriction is 50 years from date of death, so why? Need to visit to Archives in Wgtn now. #genealogy

I've been investigating the 'Woodlark' passengers that went to Whanganui then got side-tracked looking at their employers. Some prosperous enough to have their photograph taken but also a couple of rogues - bigamy & bankruptcy. #OnePlaceWednesday More to come. app.weare.xyz/public/the-w...

Tracy Farr’s alternative history, Wonderland, is a fabulous read. The setting is real – Wonderland was an amusement park in Miramar that ran from 1907 to 1912 but the main characters and events are fictional.
Book Review: Wonderland by Tracy Farr
Tracy Farr’s alternative history, Wonderland, is a fabulous read. The setting is real – Wonderland was an amusement park in Miramar that ran from 1907 to 1912 – but the main characters and events are fictional. The amusement park is the backdrop to the lives of the Loverock family. Charlie is the owner and his wife Matti, a doctor in obstetrics, is promoting the new technology of incubators for newborn babies.

Do you ever wonder why you can't find a marriage on the NZ DIA website? This one has been completely scrambled. According to the Intentions to Marry they are John A SIMS (groom) and Hannah Matilda BERRY (bride)

I'm off to ArchivesNZ to look at Intentions to Marry for Woodlark passengers. Good for pre 1880 NZ marriages as gives specific age and length of residence, parent if minor (and don't cost $25 like a marriage reg). 1865-1869, 1872, 1874 & 1880 have been digitised at www.archives.govt.nz. #GenHour

@kiwinomad06.bsky.social There are three books on this topic at Nat Library on the open shelf in FH section under FAMILY HISTORY GBR/ GUIDE and FAMILY HISTORY USA / LIST. Will you have time to browse on the visit next month? NZSG library has a couple of them too.
Those are much more detailed records than the usual church records. I've a book on my shelf called Latin for Local and Family history (or something along those lines), might be worth checking your local library for something similar (or prevailing on a Latin scholar in a local university).
