I just want to know when it's time to buy a trailer on some land way back in the hills.
I have managed to sew a Wonky Cat from a pattern! I used cheap random cotton/poly fabric to see if I could, and may now be pretty sure that I won't try this again with a better choice. Not naming the pattern because it's not the company's fault I don't know what I'm doing.

Vegetarian for 24 years now and loved meat before then, but the main thing that has ever really been a problem has been *shoes*.

Pondering this Guardian article www.theguardian.com/thefilter/20..., which describes a drill bit set as "dependable tools" but an entire sewing machine as "helpful gadgets". To be fair, maybe the rise of fast fashion and nearly disposable clothes does make it a little more justifiable.

My dog is a chi mix and not particularly gifted in the hair department, so he has to have sweaters when it gets cold. Last year I bought him an Eddie Bauer one on sale that was so nice I keep checking their human stuff and being disappointed when I don't find anything I like as nearly much.

Please stop describing wealthy people as "worth $xx million" (or billion, as the case may be). They ain't *worth* shit. They *have* $xx million, or more likely have theoretical access to $xx million. JFC.

Today I had a fortune cookie that said to follow my heart and while I do love the idea of quitting my job and explaining in my resignation letter that a fortune cookie told me to do it, i am sadly still far too much of a coward.

Overheard while walking through the local university School of Music: "We're musicians! We can't count above four!" I would add "We get really anxious and confused if we try to count to six!"

Wondering how much the wealth/privilege of most of the current administration is blinding them to the reality of what they're doing. These are people with no understanding of struggling to pay rent, much less actually missing a meal. They don't know what it means and how angry people are about it.

Starting from a comment elsewhere, wouldn't it be great to have a Constitutional Amendment that if Congress can't get a budget passed on time, we have snap elections to complete the terms of all members? Could maybe still be manipulated but at this point it looks worth a try.

When I was a little kid I would thread needles for my grandmother and be proud of myself for helping. If I thought about later I just figured she was so kind to let me think I was useful and not an annoyance. Now I am getting old and when I try to thread needles I realize I really *was* helping!

Funny how "trainspotting" and "birdwatching" have such vastly different connotations even without the drug reference.

between this and the 4 sewing pattern manufacturers getting liquidated, it's a bad time to be taking after my grandma

(yes I generally bake from scratch now, but I can afford the extra groceries and time. when I was broke/working fulltime? a boxed mix was the only way a big dessert was happening!)

So given the direction the CDC is taking now, does RFK Jr get to just appoint a Witchfinder General or does that position require nomination by the president and confirmation by the Senate?

So are Temu, Shein, aliexpress, etc breaking down their prices to show tariffs? Seems like a commonsense thing to do and Trump can't call them to heel like Bezos.

"Why SHOULDN'T government be run like a business?"

Because the goals are diametrically opposed and mutually exclusive. Businesses exist to make money. Governments exist to make people's lives better.

Simplest and most important thing for Democrats to be telling people, reminding people is that Donald Trump is jacking up prices for everyone on purpose. It’s not that he’s a goof or doesn’t know how things work. He lied to the voters and now he’s raising everyone’s prices on purpose.
