I just posted yesterday that I think my favorite instrument is Michael McDonald's voice. These guys sound killer. Also be sure to read the comments for Ms. Cottem's thoughts on who should sing soul music. I think a book about this is in order.
About six people texted me this. I am perceived.

I have to go teach so I listened to this to put my brain back inside my skull. I think my favorite instrument is Michael MacDonald's backing harmonies.

Reading john meacham's biography of Abraham Lincoln and he just said "16 year-old Abe was respected by everyone in the county because he could jump the farthest and he never lost a wrestling match". I feel like the 19th c. was different from now.

Does "wanna scrap" culture exist anyplace out there these days? .When we were about 17 we were walking to a part of town called Dead Man's Island and two boys I had never seen before just saw us and came up and said "wanna scrap?" They wanted to fight us for fun! They followed, insisting all the way

It is unbelievable to me that a human being actually *wrote* this. One of the most moving and powerful songs I have ever heard. I love that he looks like a 70s steel worker too. "Yeah this is what I look like-- want to make something of it?"

I think about this all the time, and what it means for creativity, memory, suffering, etc
“Reeder had tested children’s imagery and believed that most children were hyperphantasic. They had not yet undergone the synaptic pruning that took place in adolescence, so there were incalculably more #neuronalconnections linking different parts of their #brain …” www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...
Some People Can’t See Mental Images. The Consequences Are Profound
Research has linked the ability to visualize to a bewildering variety of human traits—how we experience trauma, hold grudges, and, above all, remember our lives.

I hope this gets some traction somehow because I really want to know people's favorite songs about astronaut ennui and sadness. Mine are:
1. Space Oddity
2. Rocket Man
3. The Commander Thinks Aloud by The Long Winters
John Roderick wrote a damn song that is as good as rocket man and space oddity

I think the funniest opinion to have about springsteen is that John Cougar Mellencamp actually is the person springsteen has been pretending to be for 50 years. and he did it without ever once using a glockenspiel.
