Instead of trying to convince voters, maybe it’s time to use this moment to finally build a #EuropeanArmy?
Trump Wants European Troops in Ukraine. Europe’s Voters Aren’t Convinced.
The public is wary of the push that some governments are making to deploy thousands of troops in Ukraine if a peace deal is reached.

EU countries are increasingly ignoring demands from Brussels to tackle corruption, improve media freedom and deal with threats to democratic society, according to a report published today.
‘No progress’: Brussels warns EU countries on rule-of-law failures
‘Several’ member states show ‘positive trajectories’ but progress is ‘uneven,’ Commission’s Rule of Law Report finds.

Ukraine, Belarus, and Moldova will either join the EU—or be swallowed by Russia. The age of buffer states is over. A direct EU-Russia border, from the Arctic to the Black Sea, is now practically inevitable.

Curious how many Eastern European EU members would reconsider their membership if Brussels ever stopped the cash handouts.

On a side note: governments in #Rome, #Paris, and #Madrid did far more to erase regional languages, cultures, and identities than any so-called leftists in #Brussels ever have.
Well, the right mostly wants the same — just within one country instead of globally. Individuality? Only for "das Volk", not for "ein Mensch"

Die Linke will eine Welt ohne Grenzen und Unterschiede schaffen und diese Vision allen aufzwingen. Die Rechte dagegen stelle den Menschen in den Mittelpunkt.

Yes, yes, we believe in #NATO. No, no, we are not afraid of #German rearmament. 😅

On a serious note, we desperately need a common #european #defenceforce that would not depend on changing political landscapes and will never be a thread to any member state.

Europeans are stuck in inertia—still replaying 15th-century rivalries, as if the world’s waiting to be split up like a global pie—freshly baked for European empires.

Spoiler alert: It’s the 21st century now. If we don’t unite, the former colonies might just divide us.

- “Why does Germany need a strong army?”
- “To protect its citizens from external military threats.”
- “Wouldn’t a larger European army do a better job at that?”
- "Well...."

Now replace Germany with any other country name in Europe.

What would EU do if the same happened in France or Germany, or even Romania?
The clear goal is to suffocate what remains of Hungary’s critical civil society and to intimidate independent media ahead of the highly contested 2026 elections — elections that the incumbent Fidesz party would lose if held today, writes Daniel Hegedüs

If a national government simply follows the EU line, it adds little value. To justify its existence, it has to at least pretend to protect locals from "evil Brussels."

Interesting numbers
A 2017 survey found support for a European army strongest in countries bordering Russia (60%+), but lowest in the UK (39%)

In 2025 UK polling, “would you support or oppose greater cooperation between the UK and the EU on issues of defence and security”, gets 72% support, with only 12% opposed.
Do we really want a European army?
The future of Europe's defence hangs in the balance. Since Brexit, UK support for a European army has risen. But do we really mean it?

The Carlson/Witkoff interview makes clear to my mind that a fundamental rupture is coming, between the US and Europe.. over Ukraine

America's perception of its self interest and Europe's assessment of its self interest are now fundamentally divergent, and unbridgeable

Does that include #Hungary too? There is no #Europe (yet) — it’s just a collection of governments whose interests sometimes align and sometimes not. A common defence won’t work without a European military, centrally commanded from Brussels.

The EU often feels less like a Union and more like a platform for member states to pursue their own agendas — Hungary stands out, but it's not alone. From selective application of the EU law to leveraging the Union for global political clout, egoism undermines unity and common good. #EU #Politics

A Europe of sovereign nations isn’t just unrealistic — it’s a path to weakness. Alone, we become puppets of foreign autocracies. Acting together, we remain free.

Basically, there are two choices: voluntarily share some sovereignty with Brussels (foreign policy, defence, corporate taxes) — keeping plenty of control over local decisions — or stay a powerless pawn in the global chess game.
