The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.
People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.
And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

Senator Ocasio-Cortez:
It’s all hostage taking in different forms. The shutdown, tariffs, ICE raids… all different forms of creating pain to establish bargaining leverage. And yes, the pain is also a top administration goal.
The whole GOP shutdown strategy is hoping that sheer force of propaganda can convince the public that things getting worse does not reflect badly on the people in charge of the government, and that hurting America more will get Democrats to acquiesce to the Trump admin hurting America in other ways.
Sean Duffy: "We have a number of people who want to get home for the holidays, they want to see their family. Listen, many of them are not going to be able to get on an airplane."

I’ve come to believe that we need to gather considerable forces and a campaign to demand the removal of face masks by ICE, Border Patrol, FBI and police.

Love the approach. Make it a roadshow, and bring the noise to every purple state in the nation. Show courage as the foil to Trump’s campaign of fear and suppression. Coax real America back out from the shadows.

And the public needs to know details of what happened. The murders, the bribes and embezzlement.

This is absolute trash foreign policy. Trump weakened his own sanctions against Russia and empowered the biggest threat to his own counter-China policy in Europe all while destroying U.S. export and investment opportunities just to cut his buddy a break. This is beyond dumb.

Orban is cancer to the EU. He continues to try to bring down European multilateralism while enriching himself and his friends. He is a protege for Trump, and he must fail. Orban’s relationship with China should derail this but Trump’s ego confounds one of his own (stated) top foreign policy goals.
US President Donald Trump signaled an openness to exempting Hungary from sanctions on purchases of Russian energy as he hosted Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

Americans chronically and consistently undervalue soft power - even when it saves lives and costs us peanuts (and actually helps many Americans in the process). It will be a long road to redemption, and we’ll need to figure this out along the way.

I’m proud to be a Democrat because I am content working hard and earning less than others to make a better community for all of us. I am ok with that, and I hope my kids will be too when they are old enough to test the timber of their hearts against their legacy. Let it be a high mark.

@cantwell.senate.gov show some teeth! This is Mike Johnson’s disaster. Dems made a reasonable call to prevent catastrophe to the middle class and Johnson wants to strangle us when we’re at our weakest. Call it what it is, and keep that sadist’s feet to the fire.

Congress could be working right now on bringing down the cost of insurance premiums for Americans. But instead, people are refusing to come to the table to discuss this issue.

Tuesday’s results must translate into reorienting the U.S. toward competing in the global community - not fire-sailing the U.S. economy to further stack the deck of the top 1%. Otherwise, our retirement accounts and our children’s prospects are toast. No coasting!

Another blatant example of this admin breaking the law. Time to force an impeachment vote. It’s black and white and overdue.
Paying furloughed federal workers is not up for "discussion." It is law. Plain and simple.
Q: Does the administration guarantee that all furloughed federal workers will get back pay?
LEAVITT: This is something we are very much open to discussing with Democrats as part of the discussions about the continuing resolution
(That's not a yes!)
