John Michael Jatho and Emelia Kunz pose with children, St. Clair, Illinois about 1905. Subtle photographic drama: the grown sons look to their right, the youngest leans into his mother, and the lady at right half-turns from the camera but stares into the lens. We're related to them, DNA tells us.

On this day in 1855 Eleanor Marx, a co-founder of our union, was born.

She was at the forefront of the fight for the 8 hour working day and consistently fought for justice & equality.

Today we celebrate all her achievements 👏

In an effort to recapture the voice, the rhythm of my first book in order to provide some continuity with a new work following many of the same characters, I began rereading that first book for the first time in years. With apologies to its many readers, I am now rewriting that book.

It is staggering to see the most successful political party in British history sink so low. The blame is clearly Cameron’s, he offered us the Brexit vote to rid the Tories of the EU problem, a spectacular miscalculation.
I think it's extremely important to remember that the Tories were well on their way to becoming an ersatz populist radical right party long before Robert Jenrick got his hardman haircut and his fat-jabs and started banging on about immigration - and the slide won't necessarily stop now he's gone.

1993 was a pretty great year for music. Yo La Tengo's Painful. Suede's sublime first album. The Pumpkins' Siamese Dream. Nirvana's final studio LP, In Utero. And quite possibly my fav one of that year: PJ Harvey's Rid of Me. Steve Albini's behind the console. Beautiful, raw, candid, powerful record.

Today, it’s not your vote that determines whether the government brutalizes you or sends officers to your door. It’s your neighbors’ vote.

If you’re ok with this happening to Minnesotans, don’t get comfortable. You won’t be exempt for long.

In the end, a lawless administration comes for everyone.
