I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die. ~ Blade Runner, Tears in Rain monologue by Roy Batty / Rutger Hauer

Our poodles seem to have inherited the "I'm judging you" gene.

Jeff Atwood steps up to be a thing that’s sorely needed in tech right now: a leader. He actually *gives* half of his current net worth (not a pledge — he already cut checks) to 8 organizations helping the most vulnerable. blog.codinghorror.com/stay-gold-am... An inspiring move, when it most matters.
Stay Gold, America

Minnesota disappoints me. Those things are an abomination.

But Florida? That just confuses me.

For the record, my Christmas baking favorites are (in no particular order):

#nanaimobars
#buttertarts

I would like an AI trained on nothing but Letterkenny and Shorsey. I'd use it to write those emails where you *really* want to get your point across without devolving to corporate jargon.

Listening to the Time Machine Weekend on 89.3 The Current is one of my favorite parts of Thanksgiving - every hour, music from a different year, spanning many genres.

I tuned in and the first thing I heard was Bobcaygeon by the Tragically Hip. Off to a good start.

I posted this on fb to friends, thought I would say something more generally. JD Vance was in Minneapolis this week, speaking outside the burned-out 3rd precinct police station and talking about the city as a lawless, frightening place

JD Vance claimed Minneapolis residents are giving up on the city. But is that true?
Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance claimed in a visit earlier this week that Minneapolis is so overrun by crime that residents are fleeing the city, but is that claim true?

"I don't like sci-fi, but this is @scalzi.com and I like it."

My wife on listening to "Old Man's War" on a car trip. I set the hook with "Kaiju Preservation Society" and "Starter Villain" and now she's a convert.

So back in the 50s, when chickens weren't the mainstream protein they are now, someone got a Cornell professor to create a recipe to get more people to eat chicken.

A simple oil-and-vinegar marinade with some poultry seasoning for a few hours, then grilled.

It's marvelous.

Just another day in urban Victoria. A buck that has been wandering the neighborhood decided to visit my parents' yard this morning.

"Place meat between 2 sheets of parchment and pins to 1/4" thick" is SO messy. The parchment disintegrates. Meat bits fly everywhere.

But, if you have those silicone liners that you line baking sheets with, those things take a beating with zero damage. Plus they're easy to wash.

I co-wrote a cookbook for depressed people and other folks with zero spoons, only knives. It's not meant to be gourmet cooking so much as a survival guide for late stage capitalism. And you can get it for free!
