Boxing people up in a confined space with these people who use any time alone with a journalist to lobby against bike lanes and road filtering has a direct effect on the output of the bbc and this should be actually taken seriously.

hot take the bbc actually do deserve to get roasted for this and I dont care who gets mad about it.

Bbc materials are all overwhelmingly carbrained. Maybe if they couldn't just fling 12 million quid worth of taxis at guests every year this would be somewhat limited.

I found out this week that library fines from Islington library no longer exist which really threw me. I was expecting to get done for a few p at least.
Without revealing your actual age, what's something you remember that if you told a younger person they wouldn't understand?

The north london ride home from work at 1730 was, truly, crazy work.
There's being freezing. There's being rained on. Then there's two at once.

At least it wasn't windy.

“These new powers do not go far enough to protect pedestrians. It’s disappointing not to see a nationwide prohibition.”

Our @charitycat.bsky.social responds to the news that local authorities will receive legal powers to restrict pavement parking. https://www.livingstreets.org.uk/pavement-parking

Labour councillor thinks that the murder of a woman - with plans that political parties in the UK are specifically looking to emulate - shouldn't be political.

Labour have no intention in every challenging the far right - which is why they'll be next to follow unless we stand up to them.
How low can Polanski go? Weaponising the killing of the mother of a 6 year old girl, that’s how low.

Leadership clearly isn’t a Green Party strong point.
Trump started it.

Reform and Tories are at it too.

And Labour already heading in that direction.

All cruel, potentially deadly and does nothing to fix the cost of living crisis.

The thing is ICE has killed multiple people this past year, but it wasnt seen as a problem at large because they were all Black and brown people.

ICE killing people didnt become a major issue until it was a white person.
I'm sorry, but I just think it's very telling when we differentiate between ICE's killing of American citizens versus undocumented immigrants. And I'm seeing that a lot right now.

Just read it. Not super throughly but as I expected there's no mention of pavement parking, in spite of it being a big deal in healthy streets campaigning

You're right. Its been hyperlinked in the first line of the press release where it wasn't before. Thanks!

When will a full strategy be published? Maybe whenever those arguments get resolved, my guess is in a few weeks. Maybe this half-announcement is their way of getting stuff out about the regs they want to make hay on.
January 7, 2026 at 11:23 AM
However my guess is, internally, there are points they are arguing about which are in the way of actually publishing a finalised signed and sealed strategy. This might include things the motorist lobby are strongly against such as stringent anti pavement parking regulations.
January 7, 2026 at 11:23 AM
You thought there was a new DFT road safety strategy? Not quite.
This press release 'announces' elements of a strategy without actually saying it is active.

The announcement says a strategy has been 'launched' today....
January 7, 2026 at 11:23 AM
My guess is that the press release is to announce why we should be happy about the strategy without actually saying it is finalised. I think they are still arguing among themselves about it.l over e.g. pavement parking. Maybe they'll actually publish it in a month.
