ALL SOULS EVE (2024)

With leaves starting to fall and temperatures cooling, the color patterns on this scrap of canvas shifted me right into the Halloween spirit. 1/2
Against a dark, abstract backdrop, a redheaded beauty poses surrounded by ghastly faces, but she seems more conjuror than captive. Her knee is raised as if she’s springing upward. Cobwebs stretch behind her and swirl around her upraised hand. A gray bat flies off from her abracadabra flourish. The sorceress is bare-chested wearing long white skirts with a red and yellow belt that dips in a V. The bottom of her skirts blend with creatures at the bottom of the panel, a transition from ghostly white to tormented gray. The background is pure hellscape that suggests perhaps a gnarled tree or the infernal stone of a cave. On closer examination, it seems to be made of twisted souls. Orange background show through at the panel edges, criss-crossed by tendrils, cobwebs or what have you but still providing a vibrant pop of color.

We’re 2 days away from Halloween! I think I would have preferred drawing a scary scarecrow instead of a jolly one, again not really my wheelhouse, but I think he’s jolly enough for the task. I got to use some brand-new inks with this one.

He’s a wizard, and a toad. He’s a toad wizard. He can conjure fireballs or something. I tried colouring this one digitally for something different and found it just as hard as painting, but at least there's an undo option.

Holly bear's head is turning to and fro excitedly as she holds up her paws like she can barely contain herself "Decorative corn and gourds!!" she shouts Holly bear skidding into frame, waving her paws and shouting "Fun Halloween decorations!" Infront of her are dangling cardboard bats, a fake tombstone with a zombie hand and a wolf skeleton with inexplicable ears. "Beautifully colored leaves!!!!" Holly bear continues to exclaim at all the wonderful Autumn sights, her eyes big and sparkling and her paws squishing her cheeks. Some happy/cheeky eyes shine from within the darkness of an impromptu fort having been built with all the items Holly was exclaiming over. The fort has a wood plank sign that says: 'Fall fort' + 'No Christmas allowed'.
