"car collision"

Cmon, man. He was hit by a car while crossing in a crosswalk.
Longtime Valentine Director William “Bill” J. Martin died on Dec. 28 after succumbing to injuries from a Richmond car collision Dec. 27.

“His dedication to sharing Richmond’s stories has left an indelible impact on the Valentine and the greater community,” acting museum director Meg Hughes said.
Longtime director of The Valentine, Bill Martin, dead at 71

A beloved RVA figure killed by a driver in broad daylight is a tragedy made worse by how preventable it was. City leaders love touting Vision Zero, but dither on redesigning demonstrably dangerous roads out of incompetence, lack of urgency, fear of inconveniencing drivers, etc. This is the result.

Contributing to the AI discourse by closing this app to argue with myself over the relative merits of Dudley Connell’s v John Duffey’s Seldom Scene cover of Baby Blue (no contest imho) while doing a crossword puzzle.

This is good stuff. I was at the 2015 memorial dedication and the sermon Bishop Porter Taylor gave was stunningly good.

I want you to know that I--a middle aged white man--don't get most of the jobs I apply for because I am usually a mediocre candidate at best and when I actually get an interview, I crash and burn right in front of them.

It's all on me, tbh.

>Sullivan's Island had been the quarantine spot for incoming slave ship cargos. It's basically Ellis Island for enslaved Africans.

>They built a fort on this spot from which Moultrie repulsed a British attempt to capture the city in 1776 and which SC'ians haven't stopped talking about since.
Dec. 19, 1775: A settlement of runaway slaves on Sullivan's Island in the harbor of Charleston becomes the target of a raid by South Carolina patriots. The camp has drawn a trickle of escapees seeking protection from British warships, which are anchored nearby with guns that threaten the city. 1/4

Can't wait to learn what he has to say about Benjamin Harrison.
Per @garretthaake.bsky.social, the extremely tacky "presidential wall of fame" that lines the colonnade to the West Wing now has obviously-Trump-penned plaques insulting or praising the presidents.

I'm trying to emphasize that British & Patriots worked hard to leverage Cherokee military support. But the Cherokee were not puppets, and made choices for themselves in a way that makes it hard to say they "supported the British." They were doing their own thing and it kinda looked like support.
Dec. 17, 1775: Britain’s Indian affairs superintendent in the South, John Stuart, sends London a recommendation that supplies of ammunition and trade goods for Cherokee Indians in South Carolina and Georgia should be halted as a way of fomenting hostility against the patriot governments.
