The triumph of the AV guy! An amazing documentary about the propaganda Putin forces Russian schools to teach, made possible by a rebel AV man. It’s on the short list for an Oscar!

Renee Nicole Good, 37, was murdered four fifths of a mile from where George Perry Floyd, Jr., 46, was murdered in May of 2020.
I want the media to understand just how close what happened today is to where George Floyd was murdered. 0.8 miles.

@rebeccasolnit.bsky.social is on fire: “Trump is an incoherent nihilistic narcissist whose attention flickers like a guttering candle. …[H]e is also, in his decline, increasingly retreating to his happy place, which is being a hotelier of sorts, redecorating while Rome burns.”
Part of the unbearable stupidity of the current administration is its feckless enthusiasm for doing things that seem like manly feats of strength to manosphere idiots and also make this country weaker...all the way down to Pete Hegseth and his belief that pushups are a top military strategy.

A terrific, clear explanation about how the attack on Venezuela fits (or does not) into the current understanding of international law from @ichotiner.bsky.social and @oonahathaway.bsky.social

Thank you Mr Mayor! Now, where the hell is Congress?

Here are two very easy ways to contact your elected representatives. If don’t like the phone use @resist.bot or use @5calls.org to call. If you call after hours you won’t reach a person and can leave a voicemail.

Do give your ZIP code so they know you are a constituent.

Go blowup some inboxes!

I just realized, this is like President Bartlett’s “big block of cheese day.”

Time to go watch West Wing again.

Thank you Mr Mayor!
On December 14th, I sat across from 142 New Yorkers as they shared their concerns, their dreams, the leadership they long for from City Hall. Our campaign was built around listening to the people of New York, and we will govern in the same way. Tomorrow, we get to work.

Got let out of jury duty early so I popped over to SoHo for some Xmas shopping. I found a European-style cafe for lunch. A croque Madame and a glass of wine was just what I needed. Great coffee too. They have glühwein and at dinner there’s raclette! Good prices too!

Brooklyn jury duty food discovery #2 Yohevet Coffee Shop on Jay St. a Kosher cafe that has Ethiopian Spiced coffee. Sort of like chai but with coffee and no milk (unless you add it later). Very tasty and warming on this frigid day.

The crust is 1/2 lard and 1/2 butter and the filling is made with sour cream, and a little bourbon.

Great stuff from the inimitable Rebecca Traister.

Drat! I guessed wrong. The label-free sweater I picked up at the thrift store for $5 turned out to be acrylic.

On the other hand, I also got a (labeled) 100% Cashmere wrap for $5!
