Fwiw, I think the NYC mayoral election suggests Mfume is vulnerable if somebody decides to seriously run against him, considering the general environment, base anger, and his similarities to Cuomo in certain ways.

Baltimore next *please*
I can’t believe it - after years of advocacy, exclusionary zoning has ended in Cambridge.

We just passed the single most comprehensive rezoning in the US—legalizing multifamily housing up to 6 stories citywide in a Paris style

Here’s the details 🧵

Something one hears from certain Baltimore electeds but less so from everyday people is “Baltimore is a city of neighborhoods”. Revealing and telling.
So, I hear a lot of cities/neighbourhoods claim they’re unique (“a city of neighbourhoods!” being the classic claim of a very mediocre city that has nothing f substance to say about itself.)

What’s a city that’s actually unique? I’ve visited a few - Tokyo, NYC, Mexico City. Where else?

It’s called the affect heuristic, a well-studied and replicated idea (also media concentration in urban cores, but that’s another story). Cities just have to be far more ordered and objectively safer than suburbs to reach an equivalent level of perceived safety. It’s unfair, but it’s psychology.
I really dislike the "it doesn't matter what per capita crime rates are because in dense areas you seeing more crime causes psychological harm" because it totally abandons any pretense of caring about real danger.

Like, if you're being so clever why not align your feelings with the facts

Honestly I feel like urbanists need to realize that if it's all vibes we just need to improve vibes. Make sure any broken windows get cleaned up quickly, it's way cheaper than actually trying to prevent windows from being broken

I’ll give $100 to the first Democrat who sings Dubul' ibhunu on the House floor.

Idk as a downtown resident and pedestrian I would very much appreciate it if drivers would not use my neighborhood as a pass through. the infrastructure being so car-dominated certainly doesn’t help either.

In light of the recent news, there is a pressing need for a close, thorough analysis of class, politics, and the political economy of the Baltimore metro.

I hate comedy, I hate comedians. I hate Hannah Gadsby, I hate John Oliver, I hate Pete Davidson, I hate John Mulaney, I hate Dulce Sloan, I hate them all. What a dying art form, hijacked and zombified by insipid, mewling liberals acting as “free speech defenders” of whatever that means anymore.
