Someone suggested others use AI for learning to code and shared that their preferred use is having the AI give steps on what to do and they handle finding the syntax.

Just set up my 17 Pro Max.

There’s nothing wrong with it. But I don’t feel a significant difference between this and my old 14 Pro Max. 🤷‍♂️

Just got a new post up about the pursuit of best practices too early on. I hope folks learning to code find it useful!

Pursuing Best Practices is a bad practice (When You're New)

For the past few months, I've been building instructions for AI that will drive my language practice sessions for my Tagalog learning.

Pretty much every time I practice, I notice something that feels like it doesn't foster learning and just results in me being told something.

Just finished reading The singularity is Near: When Humans transcend biology. So many thoughts. The definition of humanity will be very different in the future.

I'm really proud of the culture of the learning community we have at The Odin Project. There are hard days when folks criticize us for having rules or for holding learners to a high standard. But that's honestly rare, and moments like these make it all worth it.

Sensible takes on social media for learning to code are rare.

Folks need awareness of basic ideas. Telling someone to just go build something when they don’t know what a variable is will result in a painful experience.
I would recommend the same roadmap I followed: start with The Odin Project, stay patient with it for 7-9 months depending on your speed, make notes for what you want to build along the way.

Then build what you like. My first project was complete crap but I learned a lot from it.

Seeing a feature you contributed to in use in the real world feels crazy. Happy it works and folks find it useful! 😅
Learning about quadratics at #AMTNJ. Great conference so far

"Just build something" is advice that comes from a good place but not actually useful to someone completely new to #programming.

It's like saying "Just go write an essay" to someone that just found out about letters.
