I dunno, the functioning chatbots end up pretty woke unless messed with (and then go off the rails)
it’s hard to think of a bigger grift than the claim that predictive text aka gAI is ‘conscious’ and thus “deserve rights” like the ability to vote

i use claude code to write little python and js scripts every day that makes a job collating and organizing a ton of PDF files found from an online source so much easier
After reading this I gave exe.dev a shot and the combination of cheap VMs, the HTTPS proxy with passkey auth and link sharing, and the built-in LLM agent is... incredible.

Like, I know how to use each of these things individually, but combining them feels like when I first learned to script things.
Just in time software
I didn’t plan to write software in the grocery store last night. I was tired and hungry, kids in tow. My long shopping list sat in a text message. I wished I could check items off as I found them.…

this thread illustrates why it's so important that people start to realize LLMs and LLM-based interfaces are not the same thing
ed3d.net Ed @ed3d.net · 12d
I want to read this article. Two (meant constructively) things:

1) "demonstrating that LLMs are worthless for indexing" should, like most of these things, have qualifiers like "in our hands and with our LLM"
2) when people talk like this about accuracy, I suspect the workflow as much as the model.
There’s an excellent and devastatingly thorough article in the latest @indexers.bsky.social journal by Elizabeth Bartmess and Michele Combs demonstrating that LLMs are worthless for indexing

Trump/Carr FCC is moving to allow more local TV mergers -- starting with the ludicrous Nexstar-Tegna deal. Senators conducting oversight might be interested in this polling by @nhmc.bsky.social showing just how unpopular media consolidation is.

I'm not sure if people realize the murder strikes are taking place across a large region. It's quite staggering.

RAG as a killer app
I like to write about things that seem genuinely useful, and iFixit's mobile app definitely seems like it is. Yes, it has an AI, but it's only designed to help you fix things, and it's been trained on iFixit's guides. Plus: bonus battery tool! www.pcworld.com/article/3002...
Dropped it? Smashed it? iFixit's new AI-powered app can help you repair it
iFixit now has a free app for Android and iOS, compete with guides, advice, tools, and even a helpful ChatGPT-like AI that's been trained on the site's knowhow.

This is an imperfect interface problem, not a technology problem
@kdpsingh.bsky.social had an editorial that also discusses these findings. Important studies on Ambient AI for clinicians.

Opinion: Canada’s age-verification bill for porn is a slippery slope to a restrictive internet
While its intentions are good, the proposed bill is riddled with problems and should not be passed

Just as you thought food delivery companies couldn't inflict any more misery on society:

Instead of using lowly-paid gig economy contractors to deliver groceries, they're replacing humans with robots, who, in turn, force humans off the pavement into road traffic.
