Didn't have a place to put this but after Spirit-Rise Academy last night, #CanWNT/#CanXNT defender Gabby Carle was really happy with what she saw out of a team full of potential future Canada players:

This was a really cool experience for me... What I want to say is, good job on them, because it's hard. They're 16-, 17-, 18-year-olds, and you come in and it's an intimidating environment, and I think they did great, honestly. They were very disciplined, they were not easy to play against, they were not easy to break down. And I think for a Canadian, there's a little bit of pride in that to see them competing so hard against us.
On what Rise Academy's performance and the NSL says about the growth of women's soccer in Canada:
Honestly, I feel like [the quality] always been there. I think it was more a question of getting those structures in place. When I was younger, I didn't have a league to look up to, and I had to come to the United States. I'm not complaining about it. I had a great experience [at FSU], and I'm here now, and I think it's because of that, of where I went and what I did. But I think now, these younger players, having something to look up to in Canada, I think there's a motivation there to stay in the sport, and to push to make those professional teams. One thing I really dislike about Ontario humidity is how, in the winter, you just live in the cold. You go outside for half an hour and your legs are still cold three hours later. It lives in your bones.
