I think the fundamental gap here is that non-creative people think that creative people make things for the end product, when in fact it’s the act of creation and not the end point that makes it worthwhile.
I have grown to believe that excessive wealth does something to your brain that is analogous to a serious head injury

When I was little all I wanted was to see my stories come to life. But I would get so frustrated when I couldn’t draw a background, etc.
I remember thinking, I wish I could just snap my fingers and my book will be done so I can read it.

Childhood is primetime for developing creativity. It's usually when a person takes their first, wobbly steps into getting their imaginations down on paper.

Yes! Comics may be quick reads, but that also means they’re easy to reread. I rarely reread prose, but I’ve read my favorite GNs multiple times.
Knowing that readers can easily revisit my work makes me so happy. That they can just casually flip to a favorite scene. That’s cool!

in 2026 i would love to see cartoonists collectively let go of the resentment that "comics take years to make and moments to read." 🙏 the contrast in time creating vs time experiencing is true of all art. why complain that someone read your work? Chill out and enjoy meeting a reader on the page.

Usually when I want to draw I work on my book or just doodle, I have a hard time coming up with ideas for illustrations (I really overthink them). But I felt I needed some relaxing drawing time. It was nice to just draw something pretty.
