I love when I pre-order books and then they arrive and surprise me. This one’s arrival is making me quite happy. Arctic Play by Mita Mahato, an artist I came to learn about because of our shared connection to the incredible Storyknife writing residency program. It’s a really lovely collage/ship log.

Today I’m going on a tour of tug boats in Juneau. One tug still has machine gun mounts from its WWII service and is rumored to have been sunk by one of its hired captains in the 60s bc of some alleged lack of payment dispute. I’ve been told ghosts live aboard. We were told to bring a headlamp.

My win of the day was setting up a wild Alaska seafood deal at a bbq joint in northeast Nashville amongst friends who are on opposite ends of the political spectrum but could come together over a shared love of fish.

Hey new here like so many of you all. I live in Alaska and my current interest is trying to understand how the diesel engine works and what moves a boat forward. I’m a social worker and fisherman and writer. Earlier this year I made a failed attempt to cross the Atlantic. I’m here to scheme.
