A free, independent BBC is vital to a free, informed democracy.

Political leaders across the spectrum must defend it.

We have sent the Government a clear message:

It's time to step up and fairly fund councils for providing Council Tax exemptions.

This week, Bristol City Council backed our calls for the Government to fund the value of student council tax exemptions - totalling £25m this year.

Bus franchising is an essential step to reform our bus service into one that works for Bristolians.

With a new law cutting red tape, WECA should seize this opportunity to fix our buses and start the process to franchise the service immediately.

Only 10% of bike thefts in Bristol were solved last year.

That's why we're calling for Operation Bike Bait - to tackle the bike theft epidemic once and for all.

Our hospices have been pushed to the brink.

Hundreds of beds lie empty because there is not enough funding or staff. Services across the country have been pared back and 4 in 10 of hospices say they will have to make cuts this year.

A local school - where teachers have given up their staffroom for learning - is finally getting the investment it needs to finish ongoing building works to provide places for SEND students, after construction has been stalled for months.

No one should be stuck in the awful position of waiting months on end for mental health services.

It's time to supercharge mental health care in this country.

Keir Starmer says everyone in the UK will be required to have mandatory digital ID. That’s not the kind of country we want to be. Liberal Democrats have always stood up for people’s freedom and privacy, back our petition to say no to digital ID cards.

In power, Bristol Labour decided to outsource all of our highways work. Even painting simple white lines on roads can take months and come at a high cost.

We are calling to undo this outsourcing and bring some of the work back in-house, where it can be done quicker and faster.

📚 Delighted all our wonderful libraries are now safe. Under the previous administration the library service was ‘hollowed out’ with a recruitment freeze and regular unexpected closures at short notice. We got the recruitment freeze lifted, and we have secured the library budget for the future.
We know that libraries are a vital community resource. That's why we've protected Bristol's library funding in full.

This evening, councillors voted to finally launch an independent investigation into the SEND spying scandal after years of delay.

We welcome this must-needed and long overdue step to rebuild the council's relationship with parents of SEND students.

Today, an investigation into the SEND spying scandal could finally be launched.

Under Labour's watch, they completely lost the trust of parents of SEND students and failed to listen to councillors' calls for an independent investigation.

🔥 Thank you to Avon Fire & Rescue for responding so rapidly to reports of a fire on Stockwood Open Space. 5 appliances attended and brought the blaze under control, also saving a 400-year-old oak tree. The forecasted rain this week should reduce the fire risk, but please stay vigilant.
