A lot of people tasked with teaching critical thinking and literacy don't seem to be demonstrating they have their own.... We need to worry about a lack of AI literacy among faculty before we can worry about students.

The cruelest day of the year for the pets.
My cat woke me at 5am, deeply concerned he hadn't had breakfast yet. But I also accidentally ate lunch at 10:30, so maybe it's not just pets....

Today I said my class should take a 6 to 7 minute break, which prompted a few of them to crack up bc of that dumb meme, and after they settled down, I informed them now there were only 5 minutes left and the joke was on them. I teach college, by the way. College.

Our job is to teach students the critical thinking and literacy skills to realize why this Forbes headline is dumb.
If you think that professors exist as repositories of knowledge that students ask for answers, you’re missing the entire point of a college education.
We’re here to teach students how to do research, how to analyze and argue, how to think for themselves — how to find the answers on their own.

Get to the office to find a voicemail from my dad, complaining about AI. His specific concern: the two letters are often being printed in sans serif and "everybody knows an I has a horizontal line on top and bottom of it." Keeping his eyes on the big issues, my dad.

I will add that the Smothers Brothers were also canceled for petty contract reasons TV historians widely believe to be a shield for censorship of their content. And this letter from LBJ is verified by Snopes.
From President Lyndon B. Johnson to the Smothers Brothers, who had a popular, bold, and very funny political satire TV show in the late '60s. I'm old enough to remember it.
They regularly skewered Johnson (Vietnam War era), and for all his faults, was elegant enough to respond thus.
