United Healthcare had $6.06 billion in net income in the last quarter and American healthcare remains in an entirely different class from OECD countries, far more expensive both in per capital costs and in direct costs to patients, with far less coverage.

But sure, "positive effect."
United CEO Andrew Witty gave an address to the company today (leaked to me), telling employees "we guard against...unnecessary care" and that "There are very few people in the history of the U. S. healthcare industry who had a bigger positive effect on American healthcare than Brian [Thompson]."

All billionaires are creatures of the state, none would be billionaires without myriad interwoven government policies which maintain that status and provide it advantages.

Most in that position try to exploit the status and to exacerbate the collateral harms of those policies. That's bad.
There’s a lot of discourse about CEOs and billionaires right now. It’s hard to have this convo on TikTok but I think Bluesky can handle it with nuance.

Are all billionaires bad?

It’s past time for new leadership. Pass the torch to the fighters.

I unsubscribed from the Washington Post and have not been watching MSNBC. But I still subscribe to 4 or 5 newspapers and many more Substacks and magazines. I’m not tuning out. I’m just tuning into different things.
