S. Derek Turner writes about how historic broadband plan turned into just another grift. "Thanks to Donald Trump, millions of people who would have otherwise gotten robust fiber-optic internet service will get nothing more than ... slow broadband, no broadband or Musk’s expensive satellite service."
Trump's Corrupt Plan to Steal Rural America's Broadband Future
A program designed to bring broadband to rural communities had a lot of promise — until the Trump administration got its hands on it. Now Musk stands to benefit.

“I’m Senator Alex Padilla. I have questions for the secretary. Because the fact of the matter is, a half dozen... Hands off!”

Flag waving, mask wearing, photographing police, gathering together — these are all protected forms of expression under the First Amendment. To frame otherwise is to betray our constitution and really just advance a bigoted, narrow view of freedom.

Mexican Flags Have Become Republican Fodder, but Protesters Keep Waving Them
Images of Los Angeles protesters waving Mexican flags have gone viral in conservative circles this week. Many protesters say they are aware of the political reaction but won’t put their flags away.

At a time of escalating threats to our communities, the need for strong local journalism has never been clearer.

Join us TODAY for a webinar where experts will discuss how to ensure people have access to the news and information they need.

Welcome! You are invited to join a webinar: A Bold Proposal for the Decline of Local News. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the webinar.
At a time of democratic backsliding and cascading threats to our communities, the value of strong local news and civic information has never been more clear. But the journalism industry finds itself in a state of near free fall, with community members and local media workers paying the price. That’s why we’re calling on state lawmakers across the country to advance a bold solution: Place a 1 percent tax on the massive advertising revenues of tech and corporate giants, and invest the revenue in independent grantmaking bodies that support local journalism and community-information needs. This is our chance to build a media system that works for all of us – not just the corporate giants at the top. We hope to see you there!

I will be damned if I allow a bunch of Confederate-waving January 6th apologists give the American people a lecture on flag waving.

There is ZERO reason to enter an argument about patriotism with people who still worship traitors to America 150+ years later.

Sure, it’s almost funny but it’s also harmful. Organic & coordinated chaos set off a chain of events. We’re on this dark path, led by two white men who believe they have better genes than others. That honestly cannot end well & definitely feels like the early days of eugenics fascism.

By law, the head of whistleblower protections may be removed “only for inefficiency, neglect of duty, or malfeasance in office.” Trump's single-line firing letter failed to establish this.
