I’ll say it: a lot of people praise shitty world building because they prefer lore building to rich dynamism in fiction. They look at world building like building a wikiwalk rather than building a place to live.

One of the biggest things I don’t think I’ve seen discussed in the worldcon AI conversation is the encroachment on data privacy. I don’t care if anybody was excluded or included based on the results of an AI script. I care that participants weren’t told that one would be used.

For the readers in the room, this is a really good time to read sci-fi and fantasy from indigenous authors. The idea that the world has ended before and that we still live is so prevalent in many of these stories and I think. It’s good to let that inform us.
