If George Darouze wants to be "Carleton's strong voice at Queen's Park" like he claims, he needs to speak up for Carleton residents when his government is wrong, when it's not meeting their needs, and when it's trying to take away their voice by eliminating school board trustees.
We joined community members outside MPP George Darouze’s office in Manotick to say NO to Doug Ford’s underfunding of public education, takeover of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board & to Bill 33.

Lets stand up for public education, local democracy & accountability.

I'm a big fan of this. Remote work helps businesses thrive in the places people live, accommodates the different needs of all employees, and broadens talent pools.

Dragging knowledge workers back into the office to "save downtown" is bad policy that hurts workers and communities. It needs to stop.
At today's Council meeting, I brought a motion forward to reverse the City Manager's five-day-a-week return-to-office order. We'll debate that in two weeks. I've heard from many City staff about the diminishment in the quality of both life and work the order will create, with too little benefit.

"You can’t fight congestion by adding more vehicles."

A well-argued piece on Doug Ford's efforts to make yet another crisis worse.

A sobering article on the challenges faced by developers of "missing middle" gentle density. I remember doubting my vote to approve the city's DC rates last year. Thankfully, new provincial legislation may remove some of the expensive studies. 1/ ottawacitizen.com/news/local-n...

While @beynate.bsky.social remains an MP, we are saddened to hear that such a strong voice for solving the housing crisis will no longer be a Cabinet Minister.

In his short tenure as Minister, Nate set the tone on housing, taking action to lead at all 3 levels of government.

Unequivocally, housing prices are too high and must go down.

Here in Ottawa, if we choose to "make sure the market is stable" and hold housing prices flat, it would take 17 years to even see 2016's prices again. We wouldn't see 2002's fairly-reasonable prices until 2061.

I've been strongly in the "hey, let's give the new guy a chance, he's got some skills that could really come in handy" camp when it comes to the new Housing Minister (See my piece in the Hub).

But even I have to admit he's had a disastrous 24 hours.

Huge congratulations to @brucefanjoy.bsky.social and to all of my neighbours.

Faced with the choice between compassion and contempt, between kindness and arrogance, between someone in it for us and someone in it for themselves, the people of Carleton chose well.

There’s a lot in today’s housing announcement, but the key takeaway is ambition.

We are meeting the challenge with a comprehensive plan to drive down the costs of home building and to reassert a forceful government role in getting affordable housing built.
It’s time your government got back in the business of building affordable homes.

Carleton, I can’t thank you enough for your support. Together, we fought hard, stood strong, and proved that real change is close. We gave the PCs a real challenge, and this is just the beginning. The fight doesn’t stop here. See you at the next election! 🤍

Housing should be affordable for everyone. Liberals will scrap development charges— cutting costs by up to $170K per home— and remove HST on home heating bills. Let's end the housing crisis by cutting costs and building more. #Housing #Affordability #OnPoll #OntarioVotes

Carleton has felt climate change firsthand-extreme weather, flooding, and wildfires. Nature preserves clean our air, regulate temperature, and manage water better than man-made systems:

In 2024, Ford cut $1,500 per student from education. Our kids deserve better —no more overcrowded classrooms or underfunded schools. Liberals will restore funding, reduce class sizes, and invest in student success. #Education #OnPoli #OntarioVotes

I've seen seniors wait months— or years— for a bed. Understaffing and poor funding are failing our loved ones. Liberals will hold LTC homes accountable, enforce care standards, and mandate 4-hour minimum care per resident, per day. #OnPoli #Seniors

Every Carleton resident deserves a family doctor and timely care. Liberals will hire 10,000 healthcare workers, including 3,100 doctors, invest $3B in hospitals, and expand community health services so that you get quality care when you need it. #Healthcare #OnPoli #OntarioVotes

I’ve heard from people across Carleton this campaign, from lifelong conservative voters tired of misplaced priorities to the 27,000 new residents trying to build a good life here with their families.

Doug Ford has failed us, and it’s clear #Carleton deserves better. #onpoli
