many anti-AI posts on here are "virtue signaling" because even though a lot of their understanding is bullshit wrong, the posts are passed around like porno mags anyway cause people reductively use the presence/absence of these posts as a shibboleth to determine if you're performing correct politics

people want a Zelda movie to be "what if Ocarina of Time was LotR" when what it should be is an 80-minute anime OVA released in the early 90's with the weirdest plot you've ever seen and at least one original character who was so endearing that it physically hurts they aren't in any of the games

Another mismatch, AI companies didn't set out to disrupt artists the way artists felt like they did. They basically stumbled on image models as a research toy, and only invested in them heavily in the hopes they would improve models' reasoning as a side effect. Artists basically just caught a stray.
a lot of "AI hype" discourse makes more sense when you realize that a lot of initial LLM/GenAI hype envisioned replacing artists and PhDs, and its actual impacts have been much greater on coders and other tech workers
