There are two reasons why Putin invaded Ukraine. The first is that he believed he could. In 2014, Ukraine was weak, embroiled in revolution. He tested this by annexing Crimea—and succeeded. He tried again in eastern Ukraine; it didn’t go as well, but he bided his time.

APN once again with the most insightful view on current events. too much of the pro-ukr space online made way too much of the hopium that trump was going to be good for ukr now bc this mineral deal distraction.
My thoughts on the disastrous meeting between Zelensky and Trump. Trump is beginning to realize that his peace plan is failing, and he tried to bully Zelensky into submission. It didn't work.

The idea that Putin’s perspective needs more empathy implies that’s it is based on positive values, like love of country & justice. If Putin is killing Ukrainians, then it’s just “love of country gone wrong”. In fact, what’s driving Putin are largely negative values, like power and destructiveness.
