Dad. Teacher. Live from Syracuse. #BillsMafia
If you want some hope, phonics is *definitely* back in right now.

When I first started teaching, it was all whole word.

Now it's phonics again. And man, is phonics better.

Yep. She's an idiot.

Who is the audience for this new CBS News? They are going to absolutely hemorrhage viewers except when 60 Minutes airs another embarrassing Trump "interview" directly after an NFL game.
this is another data point for “Bari will run this place into the ground in embarrassing fashion”

yes, obviously, her turning CBS into a propaganda rag is terrible, but the main thing this is going to do is lead to humiliating retractions and lawsuits and endless high profile bungling
“I’ve been hearing that standards will be eliminated or severely cut back. Bari has told people that she wants to get rid of standards and is shocked that they have so much power. She also asked openly, ‘What’s the point of standards?’” one CBS source said.

Any Democrat who even THINKS about this is committing a far worse crime than the eight who voted to open the government.
Rick Scott told me his plan would be to take all of the remaining ACA subsidies and redistribute them to HSA accounts and people can then buy whatever insurance a state certifies. Basically a repeal/replace.
He denied when I asked wouldn’t that create two-tiered system where sick pay much more…

This is very true but really everyone should get an antenna. They're neat! And cheap!
kinda blows my mind that every single sports fan doesn’t own a digital antenna. i get that lots of stuff is on cable but the one time purchase of an antenna has solved so many of my problems

"You, the average Fox News viewer, are wrong. Your groceries are cheap, there are lots of jobs, and the economy is incredible."

That'll work.
She is trying to give him soft balls to hit here and he keeps whiffing.
TRUMP: The economy is as strong as it's ever been

INGRAHAM: Then why are people saying they're anxious about the economy?

TRUMP: I don't know they are saying that. The polls are fake. We have the greatest economy we've ever had

[Yelling]

THE GOP AND MAGA ARE THE ACTUAL BAD GUYS HERE. PLEASE DON'T FORGET THAT.
Man, there's an argument to be made that the eight Democrats who voted yes are in the wrong here, but that HAS to grapple with how real people are being really hurt and it fucking sucks that so many bloodthirsty assholes on this site who mistake their bloodlust for morality forget that fact.

Can't be overstated how important it is going to be in 2026 to run an anti-GOP candidate EVERYWHERE. Yes, even in your little town where the GOP always wins. They don't have to!
Most local parties are run by people who've done the job for years because no one stepped up. So step up.

Be authentically you. Speak to your community.

There is a MASSIVE leadership vacuum at the local level almost everywhere outside major cities. Fill it.

And if we want anything really big, we need a comfortable majority that allows for defections

The 89th Congress (1964 election) started with 68 Senators and 295 House reps on the blue team. LBJ swinging his dick around helped, sure, but holy shit those numbers though.
The thing about winning is that if you wanna win the policies you want you have to actually win elections. We lost elections in 24. So now we don’t get to win policies. Lots of folks seem to struggle with that. Gotta elect majorities.

Genuinely one the most cutting, devastating insults I have ever seen. Absolute art.
incredibly funny that Joyce Carol Oates owned Musk so hard he's started trying to post like a regular person with normal interests

"AIPAC is why these senators caved" is not a normal statement. Neither is the general obsession with AIPAC to the exclusion of tens of other lobby groups. The anti-Semitism is in that every lobby tries to portray itself as more powerful than it really is, but with AIPAC it feeds into conspiracism.

Yeah. Oh, Thune's not lying l - that vote will happen.

...And then every Republican except maybe Collins and Murkowski will vote against it and the House won't even take it up if it somehow does pass.
Whoa -- Sen. Durbin went to up Leader Thune during the vote last night to tell him that on the shutdown vote and ACA promise that "8 of us are sticking our neck out that you're going to keep your word. I hope you will. He said 'I assure you I will,'" Durbin says just now

This is honestly my favorite thing Jeffries has done or said as leader yet haha
Q: So Dr Oz said that--

JEFFRIES: Who? Nobody who is serious in this country takes Dr Oz seriously.

We don't want fucking "health savings accounts" or any other bullshit we have to jump through hoops and crunch the numbers for.

We want to be able to go to our fucking doctors without additional stress or fear. We want insurance that we can afford that actually covers what we need. That's it.

This this this this.

Be mad. Be as mad as you want and yell at the Cave Caucus as much as you want.

But THERE ARE NO GOOD OPTIONS. Every choice between now and January 2029 is between "horrible" and "terrible."
also, like, the die for pain was cast a year ago. the pain will continue for, at minimum, another three years. every choice now is between only bad options, and people will suffer no matter what choice is made, and senators cannot and should not be immune to that.
two contradictory ideas that i hold in my head at the same time: 1) i think the threat to both SNAP recipients and federal workers is significant enough now that even bad deals are worth making to prevent further harm, and, 2) everyone who caves now should retire in shame

I continue to think one of the biggest divides on this site is between people who understand that the last time we had a good, relatively easy way out of all this was Nov 5, 2024, and people who still don’t.

If that's the deal, and the minibus stops RIFs, and we can just do this all over again in February if they renege... I think that's a viable outcome.

The bottom line is that if the GOP wants to break the ACA, they're going to be able to do it, and we should chain it to their necks in the midterms.
"More than enough" Senate Democratic Caucus members to pass shutdown deal led by Shaheen, King and Hassan, source familiar with deal says

- CR through Jan. 30
- ACA bill vote on bill of Dems' choosing in December
- Minibus has RIF reversals and "protections" against them in future

[Ducks]

This isn't the end of the world.

It's bad. But SNAP being funded for the next year is a good thing.

And if ACA talks go nowhere we can do this again Feb 1.

[Also...the House gonna pass this?]
Welp, that’s the Senate side of the shutdown over, it seems.
November 10, 2025 at 12:04 AM
This.

I think folding is a bad strategic play.

...but I have a job and won't be going hungry if the shutdown continues.
there is some tension between the (correct) level of apocalypticism on this site about food aid running out and the unwillingness to make any compromises in service of making it not run out
