Too many manuscripts. A whistling kettle and a backup kettle. The graveyard. And a girl, very cozy, ensconced in the heart of it all.

Welcome to the garret. :)

I want to have a Gothic horror pajama party.
Flowing nightgowns and house robes, candelabras, wandering the hallways and grounds of a rented old house in the countryside, gathering together by firelight and watching a film or reading aloud a thrilling classic ghost story.

but do you live close enough to the graveyard to hear the sounds of the skeleton rave?

...I do.

Halloween may be over, but when you're haunted by the ghosts of every book you've read, does spooky season ever really end?

The Lady came back to another concert, sitting on the front row reading James Patterson.

I hope I am that cool one day.
tonight’s concert was for

the baby girl who brought her soft doll and plush bunny

and the white-haired lady who sat alone at the very front with a book to keep her company and blew a kiss to the orchestra at the end

and everyone else, I guess.

I walk into the music store. There is a new clerk at the desk. She says hello. I wish her good morning. It is 3 p.m.

I do not think it is a coincidence I notice the blend of colors in rainy streets or a pot of cocoa more keenly after I have started doing art things again.

The feeling follows me everywhere.
streaks of colored light in a rain-soaked street
like strokes of oil paint
or a world of glowing glass turned upside-down.

🧵Spotted at a Country Festival in Aotearoa New Zealand:

A worried looking small human (3?) is given a peanut butter sandwich.
Holding his sandwich protectively to his chest, he says to Mum: "I think I should hug you while I eat this."
Mum picks him up for a bear hug. (1)

Came back to the garret Friday and saw not the visiting cat, whom I've nicknamed Marmalade for her pretty golden patches, but a little red fox pattering down the same invisible path she always uses.

So now I'm just imagining the adventures of Marmalade and the Fox.

I think they must be friends.

If, however, you are approached by a “book cryptid” saying wildly enthusiastic things about your book and attempting to acquire an advanced reader copy,

you have encountered @bookmarkedone.bsky.social .

Not a scammer, but still approach at your own risk.

All opinions, after all, are my own. ;)
Shame on all these scammers jumping into authors' inboxes. "We'll market your book!" and "Would you like to be featured in our book club?" Hint: if a marketer shows up in your inbox, it is almost 100% likely they are a scammer or don't know how marketing works.

I’ve just had a persimmon for the first time and can already tell my life has been forever altered.

It’s like eating a sweet molten sunset that fits in the palm of your hand.

it is October and raining and I wish to be curled up by the fireplace with a book and the expression of an easily offended cat.

can anyone really blame a girl for such wishes?

Highly inconsiderate of the world to require me to leave the garret. What do you mean I can’t scamper through interdimensional portals into your attic space? What do you mean appearing at your elbow and passing through walls is “not polite” and “might give someone a heart attack?”

help someone wrote the best sequel to my microfiction that I could possibly ask for
I don’t know; I‘m imagining, “Half a cycle from now, I’ll be snug in my own bed beneath a quilt that toured the cosmos, and my mother and grandmother will have so many credits, they can finally start that community craft collective they always dreamed of.” ☺️
