Cork friends, and Atlanta friends:

What if I led a 1x/quarter IRL book club + co-creative space somewhere in town?
Think sitting at a cozy bar/coffee shop discussing a book, followed by some collective journaling or crafting.

Would you come?

Couldn’t find garden stakes I liked, so bought some self dry clay and made my own (not sure how long they’ll last outdoors, but the joy of experiments is in the learning)

Just a reminder that I am always open to barter/trade for culinary classes, writing/creativity coaching, or anything else I offer.

Putting it here if you’ve been eyeing a program or craving support, but a trade makes more $$ sense for you!

Wrote a lil’ piece for @us.theguardian.com on weaving rituals and small moments of joy into every day. Perfect for the new year:

Hey food friends, what was one new favorite culinary discovery you had this year?
Or maybe a re-discovery?

Being familiar with the literature is what makes you an ‘expert.’ Having a LLM summarize literature for you makes you nothing.

No one said it was easy to learn. Much as you might wish it, there are no shortcuts.

Love the deep joy of reading two books side by side. It reminds me of semesters in college where I’d purposefully stack electives around a theme.
I’m currently on that path with nightshades, filling the books with marginalia, both comparative and singular, as I read.

Proud of my client who has been struggling to write a book proposal for three years. We put our heads together and made a plan, and he just signed with a publisher, after having 3 publishers wrestle over his book.

So, even proposals that seem endless can get done and get done well!

Reading this made me think of how Janice Radway’s Reading the Romance provided me with nuance in understanding romance (and its readers) after I had largely dismissed it. And now I’m like, hungry to dive back in and explore deeper.
Honestly, I didn't even think about reading romance until earlier this year. Partly because I'd read some Danielle Steele and Nora Roberts lying around in beach rentals when I was a kid and they left me cold, but also, in a really big way, because of internalized misogyny
I'm not in the least surprised Crave/HBOs Heated Rivalry, based on Rachel Reid's romances, seems to be taking off in the places I hang out on bsky.

@swordsjew.bsky.social has been documenting (hilariously) his reading romance novels. It's a perfect summary of why this readership is fascinating.
