Nerd. I like dogs, birds, carbs, and about three people.
Lovely simple tool, you give it a url and it pushes the contents to your kindle.

So of course it needs a nagging AI chatbot.

As of today I am officially no longer in management. My title is now principal engineer.

Been having more fun the past few days than I had in the past few months.

I used to enjoy TikTok. Lots of creativity. In the past few days my feed has been overwhelmed by AI-generated slop.

It is now no longer enjoyable. If I wanted to play whackamole with AI slop I’d go to work…

One of the two things I wanted from the next iPhone has been announced: call screening. If it makes it to Australia I will be a very happy camper.

My first reaction to this “Liquid Glass” thing Apple is doing is this: “oh, great, controls that are harder to see. Awesome!”

(I expect they’ll have some way make it easier to see under the accessibility options, so this isn’t as big a grumble as it may seem.)

We’re trying to follow the news from LA from over here in rural Australia. Are there any major US outlets haven’t been captured or cowed by Trump?

Hello from downtown LA, where the helicopters are circling and sayimg they got the protesters surrounded. Flash bang echoes. They're pushing protesters back

There won't be a lot of pictures today for reasons I assume are obvious

Let's do this

What is marriage, if not a commitment to humour one another until death do you part?

A thing I notice a lot of press coverage of AI product announcements miss: this stuff is expensive to run.

If you replace search with Gemini or CharGPT then it’s much harder to make a profit, so they’re gonna have to be even more obnoxious. Or only make it available to the rich.

So has anyone seen a scam where an ERC-20 token is presented as ETH in the UI of Atomic Wallet?

(A friend got scammed. Thought there was a tiny bit of money left. Nope. It’s a valueless token.)

This reminds me of a Dotcom I worked for back in 2000. CEO exhorted everyone who bought shares at the pre-float price to hang on to them.

Guess who did not do that?
📢 In March, after a steep decline in Tesla’s share price, Elon Musk told employees, “Hang on to your stock.” The chair of Tesla’s board, Robyn Denholm, has not heeded his advice.
Tesla’s Australian chair made $306 million selling shares as profits fell

So I saw an ad from Apple for their photo editing stuff, and gave it a try on my iPad.

It does not appear to do anything that Google’s “magic erase” can’t do on an older iPhone, but is limited to only the latest devices because “Apple intelligence”.

What the extremists who’ve been running the Coalition keep forgetting is that Sky After Dark is not representative of the majority. We’re a very middle-of-the-road country, and you’ve gotta appeal to the majority, not just your base. #auspol

What I want from an iPhone 17 Pro:

Better telephoto. Better sensor and maybe periscope lens.

Call screening as per Pixel phones.

None of this requires “Apple Intelligence”. None of it is untested or new tech at this stage.

I’m really not engaging much with the Australian election - unlike almost all of my life.

Short of one party turning out to be a bunch of alien lizard pedos my broad preference flow is wildly unlikely to change.

I have become what i always regarded as a bad citizen.

Gadget prices in the US are going to hit similar numeric values as they are in Australia. But our currency is much weaker.

(Though, hm, weaker USD might actually make the raw numbers lower here.)

What a self-own.

We provide access to GH Copilot for those who want it, because some of our people have found it moderately helpful.

But there is no world in which we would require it.
My company forced us to use GitHub Copilot as some kind of efficiency measure. I spent a good three hours today trying to tweak a couple lines of code while it gave me confidently wrong suggestions on what to do. I finally gave up and found what I was looking for on my first Stack Overflow hit.
