I think I can summarize my relationship with social media as follows.

The only time I think about timing my posts to increase their potential readership is when I’m posting to ask for a book recommendation.

The book I read this year which I appreciated the most was The Tatami Galaxy (app.thestorygraph.com/books/d7946a...). It coincided with my trip to Japan earlier this year. Such a charming book with an equally charming experience seeing some scenes the book represented in real life as I read them.

You need an outline. Something simple. A few lines of summary for each chapter. With this, you'll have a road map. Don't worry, you can take detours, or new paths, just re-outline when things come up. If you do this, it will be easier IMHO--5 novels, 3 poetry collections & 2 children's books later.

Something I'm excited to do for 2026 is a read-or-rehome challenge. I'm picking 10 books that have been on my shelf for varying amounts of time, and by the end of the year, the plan is that I either got the nudge I needed to read them, or if I bounced off any, send them along.

I’ve always wanted to be an author. I have some ideas spinning in my head, but I can never get more than a page or two in before it all comes crashing down.

I’m going to say this publicly: I’m going to really try to get something written this coming year.

Lots of folks resolving to read more in 2026. Is this the white blood cell reacting to a mental virus in the world? :D
I thunk 2026 is where I want to make a bigger effort to read again. Whether it be fanfic or not, just reading in general to get back to it. I miss reading

Quite a few years ago, I realized there is nothing wrong with not finishing a book. Problem is, now I'm at the point where I don't finish most of them. Anyone else have that experience?

I'm a firm believer that this liminal period between the holidays and New Year's is how we're supposed to live. It's peak existence.

May the word "efficiency" die in 2026 and all its horrible relatives "innovating" to solve the perceived problems of rest, joy, creativity, and humanity.

Gonna nuke my entire TBR list and start over. So many of the titles on it are from years ago, when I was interested in topics I haven't thought about since. I'll start fresh with books I've recently purchased but haven't touched yet, as well as sequels of books I enjoyed this year. #Booksky 💙📚

It puzzles me how so many vacation itineraries in Chinese cities include shopping trips in the business districts.

There are way too few books on Dutch culture/philosophy/aesthetics.

Do you have any #bookrecommendations relating to Dutch culture and philosophy, lifestyle or aesthetic, even just history that covers more than just Amsterdam?

Oh and this is your notice that Michelin stars were bourne out of the Michelin tire company's desire to get people to drive more.

Yes, Michelin stars are literally rooted in carbrain thinking aka motonormativity :P

I travelled to Japan last month. Risk aversion was a little bit of a culture shock to me. It took hearing it from a different perspective to calm down my instinctual aversion to risk aversion.

@wired.com's out here stoking the flames with "It's worse than you think" instead of telling folks what people are doing to fix the shit that's gone from bad to worse in record time.

If the "bad news" article doesn't end with "and here's what folks are doing to fix it" choose a difference source.

Managed to get #DeepSeek to reveal topics of #Censorship by asking it to use l33t5p34k. That being said, this could simply be a list of things that it knows are publicly talked about in terms of censorship. There might be other things that have not been publicly revealed that are also censored.

Ontario's reliance on oil from pipelines that pass through the US really highlights the need for further electrification of infrastructure.

With the US now unpredictable, I fear that access to the oil will be wielded as an economic weapon, or we shoot ourselves in the foot with a kneejerk reaction

Follow up question for #nonfiction readers, are there any good recommendations out there for topics relating to Canada? I see so many good American-centric ones and while I think there is a lot of overlap, I would love to get some focusing on things like Canadian politics and history 👀
