Like if the chiefs lose this game they'll need to win out to be safely in the playoffs. 11-6 will get you in, but with all the tiebreakers they lose I wouldn't want to be 10-7, let alone anything worse.

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?
