I was finishing E. Jean Carroll's new book when I a firefly lit up next to me. Just as I was thinking, "How wonderful," Simon leaped up, grabbed it in his meaty paws and ate it. It's a cruel breed.
"Winter: The Story of a Season" new from the great @valmcdermid.bsky.social is a perfect read for a snowy day in NYC... and Edinburgh... and anywhere. Just one more great offering from @groveatlantic.bsky.social. groveatlantic.com/book/winter-2/

Brilliant.
The media should cover sport the way they cover the state murder of civilians:

‘Jannik Sinner appeared to win the French Open yesterday after what supporters say was a comeback from being two sets down.’

The Nazi SA - Sturmabteilung, or Storm Troopers - were often recruited from the dregs of society: barely literate failures incapable of holding down a job and only fit for murder and terror. The scum of Germany. Hitler gave them free rein to vent their rage on their betters. Sound familiar, America?

"If it was your son
you would fill the sea
with ships all by the millions
acting as a bridge
to get it through.
But don't worry,
He's just a child of lost humanity,
of dirty humanity,
which makes no noise.
He is not your son.
Sleep peacefully,
it's not yours."

Nothing short of idiotic. This is madness.
This is an elected member of Congress & the GOP saying that he welcomes a war against another nuclear power who is literally our oldest ally & with whom we have a formal treaty military alliance.

Congrats again on that National Conversation™️ about which party has moved further from the center 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️
Rep. Greg Steube: "You see Macron and the French sending troops to Greenland. I would love to see the US military up against French troops in Greenland, because it would not last very long. It would be a very small skirmish ... we don't care about what Macron and the French want."

Nobody covers the child care beat better - with both facts and nuance - than @ehaspel.bsky.social. His latest explores leveraging state constitutions to establish a fundamental right to child care. www.the74million.org/zero2eight/w...
What if States Made Child Care a Constitutional Right?
As families struggle with rising costs and access to early learning, states have an opportunity to reframe child care as a fundamental right.

The @nytimes.com headlines are frequently bad, even disconnected to the articles. Today's print front page headline called his unhinged Davos rant a "Brash Speech," which I would label journalistic malpractice. Why do they continue to normalize this ill man doing global damage?

No one can be watching this Davos speech and reach any conclusion but that the President of the United States is mentally disturbed and that something is deeply wrong with him. This is both embarrassing and extremely dangerous.
