A new low in Australian excuses for fossil fuel expansion…apparently our coal and gas exports can be ‘netted out’ if we export enough green energy…can someone please call the atmosphere and tell it that burning fossil fuels wont harm it as long as we generate some renewables…FFS
I'm genuinely surprised @aunz.theconversation.com would publish such a misleading article. This is not 'journalism you can trust' it's propaganda.

Australia has a home insurance crisis and climate change is going to make it worse – @jack-thrower.bsky.social in @thenewdaily.bsky.social.

"Between 2022-2023, the average home insurance premium in Australia rose by 14%, the biggest increase in a decade. A major reason for this is #climate change."
Australia has an insurance crisis. Climate change will make it worse
Climate change makes disasters more frequent and more destructive, this is leading insurance companies to charge higher prices.

Read that again.

One giant gas export project, worse than all Australia’s coal power stations. 6 BILLION + tonnes of emissions.

Will @australianlabor.bsky.social approve it?

If so, their climate climate credentials will be in tatters. Worse than Morrison.

If Labor approves the 50 year extension of the North West Shelf gas export plant, brace yourselves for the spin about how we need it because of a 'shortage' of gas.

WA is awash with gas. 90% of it is exported.

Approving the NWS extension will be a boon for big gas & a bust for West Australians.

The concept communicates to consumers that we play a significant role in limiting the impacts of climate change through small daily personal choices. The carbon footprint has merit, encouraging the use of keep cups, the offsetting of emissions for a long-haul flight, improving our recycling habits, saving the planet one Tupperware container at a time. Gas industry pollution is destroying the ancient rock art of Murujuga.

To the new Environment Minister Murray Watt; if you want to protect 40,000 years of culture, reject the North West Shelf gas facility extension, and stop 50 more years of pollution.

Hundreds of people turned out to support Save Smiths Beach rally today, including locals who fought and won protections for this coastline 20 years ago.

Now those protections are being ignored, with plans for a 100m seawall, 44 per cent more clearing and 25 per cent less national park.
