Friends, exciting news, amidst the collapse of academia and science as we know it… I GOT TENURE!! 🎉🎉 I have a lot of thoughts that I’ll share one day. But for now, feeling a ton of gratitude to have many great role models and fantastic human beings that I get to be surrounded by daily.

Annual reminder (at APS-DFD) how many men are so threatened by Girls-Who-Know-Things that we (women) do not get appropriately cited/credited, especially when our ideas are blatantly stolen. Ladies, find your support group and remember it’s not you, it’s them. 1/

A bad day with the laser on (52-y/o flume power issues and turbidity issues due to rust) is still not a total loss, right?

Beautiful (and natural) seeding particles for SPIV in the outdoor flume today!

One thing nobody preps you for when submitting for tenure is the total emotional burnout afterwards. Package was due incrementally throughout the summer. First vote is complete, and I’m still doing minor edits when our awesome admins find typos. I am proud of my work but my brain is toast 💤

Super fun (and super “critical!”) day playing in the outdoor flume! I don’t have a strong background in open channel flow, but learned a ton (with the JETlab grad students) building and destroying dams, gates, etc along the channel, trying to maximize flow speed while maintaining 6” water depth. 🌊

🎉 paper alert from the JETlab (and co-author Margaret Byron!) Awesome review paper regarding lab-generated zero mean flow homogeneous isotropic turbulence - enjoy!! www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

Showing the new grad students PIV and lasers for the first time never gets old - the Oohs and Ahhs are priceless! Joyous advisor moments.

En route to DC for APS-DFD!!! Can’t wait to see (most of) my fave fluid mechanicians!

I have spent the entire afternoon coding (from scratch) to help analyze my student’s awesome data. My brain is so out of practice… but loving the challenge. Hashtag… PI skillz.
