European Bee-eater (Merops apiaster): 29cm (11.4in). These colourful social birds are of course native to Europe, wintering in Africa and have an ability to catch insects acrobatically in the air, usually in open country, often near water. Exceptional photo taken by José Luis Rodriguez in Portugal.

Red Breasted Nuthatch and Indigo Bunting at #Birds of #Vermont Museum in Huntington. The Bunting was eating insects attracted to the flowers. The Nuthatch was a new lifer. While common in our are, the White Breasted is much more visible.
