Yes, we are discussing whether girls should have the option of wearing trousers. In 2026. In the north of Ireland.
NI schools: Skirt or trouser option should be a 'no brainer', say pupils
MLAs on the Education Committee are planning to bring forward a bill so that all schools give girls the choice.

We have seen antisemitic content, non-consensual deepfakes of women, and child sexual abuse material.

Today is the official start of my sabbatical 😁. During the next six months, I will focus mainly on legal challenges to the use of #facialrecognition & other biometric technologies.

Good to see BBC Radio 4’s discussion on #AI but a little puzzling that it centres on possible future consciousness yet bypasses a deeper debate on the harmful effects in the here and now, and the underlying unequal power relations that propel AI’s development and deployment.

Ireland has one of the highest concentrations of data centers. This has reshaped the grid & deepened fossil fuel use. As the EU pushes to triple data center capacity, Ireland offers a warning.

Concerns over #facialrecognition racial bias are long-standing and well-documented. But eliminating the racial bias of this intrusive surveillance technology does not suffice. It should not be used until its effect on a broad range of human rights and democracy has been established.
