I wasn't optimistic about my chances of seeing the Red-throated Diver first thing this morning at Ravensthorpe in the fog. Luckily it popped up only a couple of meters off the dam and was showing well. County tick 199 for me. #northantsbirds #birds #ukbirding

A walk along the canal yday morning from Dimmingsdale to Bratch Locks revealed the drake Mandarin from Dec’25 was still present & became no.79 for the 10k year. Quiet otherwise but a good total of 9 singing Song Thrush added their uplifting vocals along the way #ukbirding

A short video of the female King Eider that has frequented Quendale Bay here in Shetland since finding it in early December.

Also a very welcome addition to the house list...🏡✅

Quick after work visit to Gailey Res produced a surprise Barnacle Goose on the sailing lake. All by itself and calling as Greylags flew overhead. With the current goose influx, who knows where this came from. Also Great Egret, 2 Little Egrets, 4 Goldeneye, 3 Oyc #staffsbirds

My attempt on the Avon county year list record (208, set in 2006) began modestly with 123 species seen in January. But there was some quality in the form of Penduline Tit, RN Duck, LEO, Whooper, Bk Redstart, Gtr White-front, DB Brent, RB Merg, Firecrest, Scaup, Woodcock & Brambling #ukbirding

Strike a pose: lovely to find this adult Little Gull at Leebitton, Shetland today which was joined by another individual shortly after. These pint-sized gulls are scarce winter visitors to Shetland and are the first records for 2026.

The Shropshire Bird Report for 2024 is now being delivered. As always, it’s a fascinating resource and a delight for Shropshire bird nerds.

It’s a great credit to the hard work and diligence of @pilning.bsky.social

I needed these today after reading about the grim Greenland Whitefront situation. Popped over to see an excellent flock of 40 Russian Whitefronts and left having seen 💥194💥! The highest #shropshirebirding count since the demise of the wintering flock in late 70s! #goosing ebird.org/checklist/S2...
