Sunny and frosty morning at Eyebrook.
Sun in the wrong spot for finding the Yank wigeon.
But a juvenile Whooper Swan, 7+ RCPs like ginger balls of fire in the sunshine.
Close to 200 Pochard which is a throwback to the 90s.

An unexpected twist to a walk looking for Dipper on the Horton Burn! This Little Bittern was discovered late morning at North Shields in a bit of a sorry state. Pictured here at handover to a rescue team. Looking healthy (and drier), hopefully it will recuperate overnight for a release…

Early in the month, these two Oriental Turtle Doves occasionally roosted in our Shetland garden and would feed up on seed before spending the rest of the day in the barley. That's now three OTDs we've had in our garden this year! Bonkers!

Pleased to reach 700 followers - more than I ever had on Twitter and without all the bots. Here's the American Pipit I saw on St Agnes last month, maybe looking for the next 700. Thanks everyone, it's been a good birding year. #ukbirding #birds

And here it is! This glorious flight shot was taken by Mike Edgecombe @mikee100.bsky.social as the Pallid Swift whizzed below the two of us along the undercliff at West Runton this afternoon. A gorgeous subtle bird & so instructive too.

Excited to land a full-fat patch tick when this Penduline Tit reappeared on Severnside at the north end of Northwick Warth this morning. It showed well despite the chilly conditions. A quality bird for Avon! Pic: @matthall95.bsky.social #ukbirding

On Shetland for the weekend to do some jobs in & around the house but kept getting distracted by birds in the garden! Started with a Coues's Arctic Redpoll then Rory Tallack had brief views of a pipit which eventually gave itself up as a Pechora. Lastly, a Bullfinch was a most welcome addition.

Passing by today and had the easiest and best views ever of dusky warbler that called none stop so always knew where it was. Also saw the nearby AGP. So turned out to be a pleasant morning.
Proof lightning does strike twice. @beidaihebirder.bsky.social found the second Dusky Warbler at Aylestone Meadows, 100m from the site of the Christmas Eve 2021 bird. Proved patchworking works. #vc55birds #ukbirding

White-throated Sparrow record from 2009 wasn't that far away from Calshot really and also there was the Spanish Sparrow, also in Calshot in 2012. Both accepted I'm assuming.

Went down to Hampshire for the Boat Tailed Grackle. I know it’s ship assisted and has no chance of getting on the British List, but it was full of character and a real stunner. Don’t understand why ship assisted birds can’t go on the British list 🤷🏻‍♂️
