she/her. Social Worker trying to make better policies for people. very bi very gay. Chicago I love you so much. Opinions are my own and not representative of my employer.
I will be donating to help buy out vendors in little village first thing tomorrow morning.
I waited a day to say this bc I respected everyone's right to vent some anger, but *remember to focus on what you can do*. Whether it's defending your community, taking action around what you've been venting about, whatever — but don't let all of your energy get captured in the social media space.

Bitterly disappointed in the Democrats who sold us out and folded on healthcare in a backroom deal.

People will lose health insurance and premiums will skyrocket. More people will end up in the ER. I can’t stand the complacency and weak leadership in our party that refuses to FIGHT for the people.

today, like every day, is a good day to remember everything Lake Superior has taken from us. the only language the Great Lakes understand is force.

No one has to do the Democrats' job for them and tell them about the tools at their disposal. Do you think the Republicans are the only ones who know how the system works? 'If they wanted to, they would' applies to US party politics too. They've been like this and only gotten worse for years.

Not a political consultant but I’m not sure “standing up to trump doesn’t work” is the best midterm message, even if if accurately represents senate dems position. Not much point in putting you in power then bsky.app/profile/atru...

So I don’t know man.

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

They were chosen because they are not up for reelection so they can safely piss off voters.

The only answer is you have to hold the entire caucus accountable for the surrender. Every Dem who isn't calling for new leadership ought to be primaried. That, or accept continued failure.

Assume all the yes and no votes from Dem senators are strategic and not sincere votes. The party caucus made a decision. No way to know how many were in favor. Then the caucus decided who would vote yes and no based on what would protect each of them politically the most. That’s how this works.

I have very VERY strong words for that fuckin worthless senator from Illinois this morning.
I received this email about Democrats caving to end the shutdown from one of the SNAP recipients I spoke to:

Hearing from more people after this went out.

"We're all pissed. This was a lot of unnecessary stress on people and their families for nothing. And if I win the lottery tonight I absolutely will spend millions to hire people to follow these 8 Dems around for a year and make their lives miserable."
I heard from a bunch of federal employees last night and this morning. They aren't happy.

"I would rather be an actual pawn. At least pawn sacrifices are calculated and achieve something. All this for a fucking meaningless vote."

Please apply for this key job on Chicago’s CARE team providing non-police emergency crisis response.

Also, these jobs are paid a fraction of CPD posts that require less education, less skill, and less risk. That’s a reflection of the fact that we live in bullshit police state.

When you don't do this, electeds end up "supplementing their income" with sweetheart contracts and kickbacks
ryan is right. people HATE hearing this. but it is just a matter of simple incentives. if you want a more representative legislature — and if you want a legislature more resistant to corruption — then you need to jack up the salaries. serving as mayor of NYC should net you a cool 500K *at least*
people hate hearing this but it's 100% true, creating a huge pay gap between political leaders, their staffs, and other elites is a recipe for corruption. of course the flip side of that is taxes on the rich should be jacked way the hell up

The cops are not our allies against ICE.

Shameful.
BROADVIEW - state and local authorities just arrested about 20 women who hopped the concrete barricades outside the processing center, sat down in the middle of the street and joined hands. Took maybe five minutes all told.

BJ didn't win on charisma. He won with the backing of CTU and bc everyone HATES Paul Vallas.

If we'd had RCV in the primary I don't think he would have won.
If I lived in New York and had a vote, I would have gone for Brad Lander, whose policy thinking is far more up my alley. I have seen in Chicago what happens when a charismatic leftist wins promising big change and then can't deliver and loses support fast. But Mamdani seems like he may work it out
