The problem with millennials and Gen Z isn't TikTok. It's that we're not half as delusional as our parents. We recognize patterns a lot easier. We know who burns villages just to acquire the land. We know who destroys the food supply. We know who breaks treaties. We know who profits from genocide.

This is exactly what progressives said would happen and yet Biden/the Democrats chose to champion this ban and make themselves the face of it bc they care more about passing authoritarian policies like a TikTok ban than listening to their own constituents (none of whom wanted this ban)
Cool. Pro-Trump propaganda. This is such an unforced error on Democrats part. Banning this app was such an asinine move.

"But Republicans voted for it too!"

The law would not have passed without the Democrats who voted for it, or without Biden, and many Democrats sponsored other bills to do the same thing. There is no universe in which they do not hold blame for this.
just a quick note that if you’re trying to assign blame for a law promoted, passed, and signed into law by Democrats to someone other than Democrats, you are not a savvy politics knower, you’re in denial and it’s embarrassing

Whether or not the ban holds for very long, the many unique communities on the platform will inevitably scatter across myriad smaller apps — and many will disappear altogether. Read my piece on the death of TikTok

I find a lot of TV catchphrases overdetermined and hard to take because they sort of break the verisimilitude for me. Who says the same thing all the time?

The exception is Columbo, because if I were a detective and came up with “Just one more thing…” I would ride that fucker INTO THE GROUND!!!

It really is such masculine energy to blame things on a woman who no longer works at the company www.nytimes.com/2025/01/16/u...

rewatching FIGHT CLUB this week i was very struck by how a movie that is very plainly a critique of this vision of masculinity was taken up as a valorization of it
It's grim thinking about how many men and women in society have mental models of valorous male behavior that primarily consist of being abusive and violent.
one thing i’m stuck on is this idea that “masculine” energy means license to act like a chud in public, as opposed to more traditional notions of public masculinity, such as those that put a premium on the performance of integrity, honesty, honor and generosity.

We are heartbroken to learn that David Lynch has passed away at 78.

Lynch's family writes on Facebook, "It is with deep regret that we, his family, announce the passing of the man and the artist, David Lynch. There’s a big hole in the world now that he’s no longer with us."
