He/Him. Staff Writer at /Film, contributor to Discussing Film, Dread Central, Crooked Marquee, The Wrap, Daily Grindhouse, others. Co-host of Bill & Ashley’s Terror Theater. An actor and comedian sometimes. A goofball all other times.
I got to see #TheStrangersMovie Trilogy tonight. All 3 chapters properly edited into a single film (with intermission) as originally envisioned. In this cut, it’s the most ambitious slasher film since TERRIFIER 2. Harlin’s a mad lad, & Madelaine Petsch is a helluva Final Girl.

I was hoping to like #28YearsLaterTheBoneTemple , but I didn’t expect to love it so thoroughly, nor believe that it could reach (maybe even surpass) the heights set by its predecessor. But Nia DaCosta & co. pull it off! My review for @discussingfilm.net

'28 Years Later: The Bone Temple' Review - Nia DaCosta Delivers a Uniquely Intelligent and Grisly Sequel
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is unlike most horror sequels, pushing boundaries in the genre while saying something profound about humanity.

tfw you think “I will enjoy my morning with my new Sound of Music 4K” only to have it shit the bed 14 mins in, discover reams of complaints of similar issues on message boards, and have to order a replacement instead

A friend in Minneapolis just sent me this video. Looks like thousands have come together for a vigil after an ICE agent shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good. This was my neighborhood for several years before coming to Portland.

The US people can stop Trump but it’ll require you to increase pressure tenfold, the dial must be all the way up, especially around Mara-A-Lago and the White House. It must be made clear Trump & his regime have to go. It requires everyone, from boots on the streets to friendlies in the legislature.

Glad to see people paying attention to the horrors of ICE, which has been committing daily human rights violations under both party administrations. A few orgs you can support that are fighting the good fight:

I never anticipated how the RFK Jr. news headlines would be triggering, since I lost my father to Hepatitis B.

Johannes Roberts does it again, and by “it,” I mean make a visceral, delightfully mean-spirited, no frills horror thriller in PRIMATE. And to paraphrase Sia, I love chimp thrills! My review for @discussingfilm.net

Here are my top 25 movies of 2025! No outlet to publish this in this year, so a notes app screenshot it is. We’ve been blessed with a ton of cinematic riches this year, so while I could fuss over the order and inclusion for several more hours, but I’m going with my gut.

Finally saw TRAIN DREAMS, and was really touched by its “life and death of the anonymous American” fable. A great film for both those who believe that every little flutter of wings has meaning, as well as for those who believe that we’re merely dust in the wind.

Happy holidays, fiends!! For the annual Bill & Ashley’s Terror Theater holiday horror episode, we’ve thawed out 1997’s JACK FROST. Yes, the evil killer snowman movie. It’s a nasty & playful slice of good cheer & fear, and we hope you enjoy it with us:

With AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH, James Cameron makes yet another sweeping, exhilarating, imaginative sci-fi opus. A true genre epic that is as conceptually radical as its images are breathtakingly realized. My review for @slashfilm:

#SongSungBlue gets emotional whiplash from resisting being a standard weepie. Instead, it wants to be a celebration of performers, their love of music, & its power to make life’s hardships all worth it. Overwrought, exuberant, catchy & charming; sounds like Neil Diamond to me.

James L. Brooks’ return to the director’s chair sees him triple down on his love of Capraesque screwball traditions, so much so that it’ll either infuriate or charm you. It just so happens that I’m in the latter camp, c’est la vie…

#28YearsLaterTheBoneTemple sees Nia DaCosta take Alex Garland’s uninhibited script to delirious heights of transverberation. Easily one of Ralph Fiennes & Jack O’Connell’s finest hours. Severe, emotional, thoughtful, and playful in equal measure. Also: metal as fuck. How’s that?
