In the U.S., the toll of the tragedy has climbed steadily for over a decade. Since 2010, we’ve seen an 87% increase in bicyclist deaths in the United States, with consecutive all-time records for the most deaths in the last two years of available data.

Remember all the hype about how Uber and Lyft would allow people to live car-free?

Well, it turns out ridehail has no discernible impact on car ownership at all.

More than Seattle. More than Sacramento. More than anyplace on the East Coast south of DC.

Wilmington has the 14th highest Amtrak ridership in the U.S. (and also has a smaller population than all of the 12 cities above it on the list).

The reason: those projects are "hostile" to cars.

You cannot freeway your way to economic vitality and human connection. Larger parking lots and wider lanes will never create cleaner air. A healthier America is one where everyone is able to get to their destination without needing a car.

Every community benefits from less car dependancy.

One way of describing this is that traffic forecasting is a bit of a black art.

Another way of describing this is that traffic forecasting is bullshit.
This graph says it all. Induced demand is real, and the reverse is also true: if we don't expand highway capacity, people make choices other than sitting in worsening traffic jams. $10B for transit instead, please.
