I'm very pleased to share this work, which discovers a new material property of DNA—the bending friction— in essence how "sticky or viscous" DNA is as it bends & loops due to all the complex molecular interactions within itself & water

Iran’s sweeping crackdown on anti-government demonstrations left more than 6,800 people dead, according to an advocacy organization tracking the fatalities. The level of violence against protesters has few recent parallels, human rights groups say.
Iran’s killing of protesters reached level rarely seen, emergent count shows
Even in the scale of global attacks on civilians and crackdowns on dissent, the magnitude of Iran’s violence against protesters stands out.

The drugs policy comes across more powerful that Polanski hasn't taken drugs or doesn't drink and I don't think Kuenssberg was expecting that. And it makes Starmer's comments even more shitty as it insinuates he is a druggy!

For me star trek is star trek as it offers a positive vision of future for humanity, where we have moved past petty competition for the sake of ego— this isn't easy & requires skill to write good sci-fi story lines like in Next Gen. On this ep3 & much of nu-trek fails!

I know attention is on the US/Greenland, and it’s hard to get proper news from Iran, but this from @christinalamb.bsky.social estimates at least 16,000 people have been killed and over 300,000 injured. Many (most?) victims are thought to be under the age of 30

The key thing about a *universal* basic income is in the name — that it is universal! You can't have it for particular sectors or industries!

In an ideal world we wouldn't trade with countries that abuse human rights, don't have free elections & flout international law (e.g. Russia, China & now USA!). However, we hollowed out manufacturing in favour of financial speculation, so we're dependent on global trade for anything real!

Sadly, our moral authority on human rights and detentions with China are somewhat diminished when we have a gov that arrests peaceful protestors—including elderly — for holding up placards in support of Palestine Action which was proscribed as a terrorist organisation for spraying paint!

These are.purposefully random acts of violence against individuals willing to challenge ICE & border patrol. All Alex Pretti was doing was helping a woman who had been violently shoved to ground and he was shot dead. This is terrorism against citizens of the US.

Shameless lie that Renee Good used her vehicle as a weapon now being platformed by the BBC!

People who support killing of peaceful protestors or observers, such as by ICE, should be classed as extremists and so it is not clear why the Republican abroad guy was on the panel.

Are these two a joke? The interest of the centre and centre right and their neoliberal economics policies are exactly what led to the conditions that made Reform (and MAGA and Trump in the US) popular!

Never seen Traitors, but it sounds horrendous, promoting the worst aspects of humanity of using intelligence for manipulation and control, rather than creativity and cooperation. Have I got the wrong end of the stick?

I joked yesterday that strategy to defeat narcissist Trump is ignore him, but with all energy his antics take up, with real challenges of climate change & biodiversity loss, on which economic growth depends, whilst also tackling wealth inequality, perhaps going forward we should!

Trump is a narcissistic big orange man baby and I think most of all he wants attention.. so I think the strategy to defeat trump is simply to have a media moratorium on anything to do with Trump — just ignore him and give it a week or two and he'll implode!

As welcome as these grants are Labour should be far more ambitious for insulating UKs very energy inefficient homes. Gov spending on this to subside high costs is a win-win: it reduces energy usage and bills, and creates jobs. Instead gov won't borrow for unfounded fear of bond markets!

Just a reminder a year on that US elected Trump — despite US economy growing under Biden — because he did not protect living costs or tackle growing wealth inequality. Now we face prospect of authoritarianism in US.

Labour should heed this lesson before Reform get chance to ruin the UK.

If Donald Trump complains that the UN hasn't done anything, then give it more teeth to do so.. however, I suspect Trump would not support strengthening the power of the UN!

Come on Amol ask her the obvious question: given that the US has the right to place military on Greenland, isn't this really about the US stealing the mineral wealth of Greenland?

Mike Johnson: I don't think "freedom loving" means what you think it does!

It certainly doesn't mean being shot dead when unarmed and in a car moving away from a trigger happy ICE officer!

Hunt hypocrite par excellence! He and his conservative party did exactly everything he is just laid at Labours door — which unfortunately is partly true — they completely destroyed growth and wrecked the country !!

Rubbish, this isn't primarily about security gabist Russia and China, since the US has an agreement for military bases on Greenland. This is primarily about the minerals in Greenland!

Trade with the EU is much larger than with the US, so maybe if we were to join the customs union and maybe single market we'd be less exposed to Trump's mafioso tactics with tariffs!

Machado and Trump making a mockery of the Nobel peace prize, which lost credibility when awarding Obama one for the potential for peace rather than actually achieving it!!

And btw you can't transfer the prize, whoever is in possession of the actual medal!

Poor interviews with both Offord and Timothy and not being challenged about the real and underlying causes of the problems we have, which is Tory austerity.. and guess what they're both Tories, as is Jenrick, whether or not they are in the Tory party or Reform!
