🌍 Did you know, when the sedimentary rocks of Beacon Hill were laid down - 565 million years ago - Charnwood Forest would have been at the bottom of the sea.

Back then our region was far from where it is now, with a latitude of around 60° south of the equator!

💧 Thornton Reservoir, in the south west of the Geopark, was constructed in 1854 to supply drinking water to the growing communities of Leicestershire.

🚶 Today it is a peaceful place to explore the trails around the water's edge.
