ICE is not law enforcement and they work for the people, not the other way around.

i think powell's response here is a demonstration of the folly of the idea that democratic accountability requires presidential control. what if the president is not acting in the public interest? you want independent agencies to be able to push back and pursue their *congressional mandate*

An ICE agent, on or off duty, has no police powers. At the point he went outside armed, he was no different than any citizen. If he has his weapon out, Porter could reasonably supposed he was under threat. If an investigation showed that charges aren't warranted, they need to publish the reasons
