I used to work for a hockey team and I used to live in Canada (not in that order). Now I do other stuff.

PEI, ATL, Thrashers nostalgia, random music, food takes, dad life
Big things happening in PEI thanks to McQuaid, former Thrashers prospect Drew McIntyre (not mentioned in the story) and former Avalanche Director of Scouting and Charlottetown Islanders advisor Scott Harris (my cousin).
Former NHLer Adam McQuaid champions pickleball back home
Getting involved with the Atlantic Pickleball Club was an easy decision for him.

There are no documents affirming Denmark's claim to Greenland? What about the Treaty of the Danish West Indies, ratified by the United States in 1917?

This article refers to Canada's "northern border" five times.

Canada does not have a northern border. It has a northern coast.

That might sound pedantic, but it's as nonsensical as saying America needs to fortify its eastern border.
Trump's latest Western Hemisphere fixation: Canada
The president has intensified his criticism of Canada in private conversations with aides in recent weeks over what he sees as the country's vulnerability to U.S. adversaries in the Arctic.

The most common thought going through my head watching NFL games:

"I would definitely hurt myself doing that."

Is Miller still living on a military base because he was afraid of the sidewalk chalk outside his house?

Who is he to talk about anyone's ability to defend anything?
Miller: Denmark is a tiny country with a tiny economy and a tiny military. They cannot defend Greenland… Under every understanding of law that has existed about territorial control for 500 years, to control a territory you have to be able to defend a territory…

When you're at Costco in Canada, you try the poutine. They also have chicken fingers.

My brother-in-law, who passed away Tuesday, was a huge Bruins fan. This would've made him very happy. He was also a big 49ers fan, so I know who I'll be cheering for tomorrow.
The Bruins scored 10 goals in a win over the Rangers this afternoon. Check out some of the best stats from the historic game 🔗 https://tinyurl.com/yc3ad2y7

The interview with Mammoth (and Jazz) owner Ryan Smith is amazing. Atlanta needs someone with that passion, enthusiasm, and knowledge (and deep pockets). That's a big ask though.

Every once in a while you read an obituary of a person you never met and think "I really wish I knew them."

This is one of those obituaries, but I knew him. Jeff was my brother-in-law. It stinks that I didn't get to spend more time with him, due mainly to geography.

Jeff was awesome.

I can't fault the teams for doing this, but this is brutal for friends and former colleagues at FanDuel in Atlanta who have been there through the SportsSouth/Fox/Bally/FanDuel changes.

Something interesting you might not have realized: a number of words in English are NOUNS when you stress the FIRST syllable, but VERBS when you stress the SECOND syllable.

"Your CONduct is better when you conDUCT yourself appropriately.”

In the unlikely event that the people and territory of Greenland declare free agency, they should consider joining Canada. Geographically next door, and a country that already includes a self-governing northern territory.

It's a better fit than America, and it would make some heads explode.

The current interpretation of The U.S. Constitution:

- you CAN kidnap and prosecute a foreign leader for pretty much any reason you concoct

- you CANNOT, under any circumstances, do anything whatsoever about your own leader who commits crimes every day

Some on Reddit posed an interesting question.

The IOC barred Russia from the Olympics over the invasion of Ukraine.

Could/would the IOC bar America from the Olympics over the attacks on Venezuela?

The IOC being what it is, I don't think they'll even contemplate it, but there's precedent.

We've known the end was near, and it made for a rough Christmas, but we closed out New Year's Day by saying goodbye to our 19 year old cat.

My wife is the best vet on earth, so he passed quietly and comfortably.

I feel like Canada has less of this. There's a rural/city divide, but someone form Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, or Calgary isn't considered less Canadian, are they?
Do other countries have this weird notion that you’re not a “real” representative of the nation if you live in an urban center? Like do the French say Parisians aren’t really French? Are you considered not a real German if you live in Berlin? Or is this mainly a weird American thing?

There's a Democrat running against my Congressman, Barry Loudermilk (tour guide to Jan.

This might be news to Bluesky, because the candidate's name gets zero results on this platform.

Best of luck to Barry Wolfert. Maybe start a Bluesky account?

PSA: If you plan to give your pets medication before the fireworks tonight, it's probably close to time. It takes 1-2 hours to kick in, and if you wait until the explosions start, it's too late.

It's fascinating to watch the players of various ECHL teams put out statements, through their teams, basically saying "We support the strike for the sake of other players who have terrible owners, but our owners are awesome. Everyone else is the problem."

My tiny college's soccer team played in a competitive beer league. We went winless my first year. Second year, a few games in, the coach sent an email:

"In the interest of team chemistry, we're making some cuts."

Two of us got cut. By email. In 1996.

They still finished the season winless.
What's an insult you'll never forget?
