Last month, the Renters' Rights Act became law!

We recently celebrated by bringing together the campaigners, politicians, and renters who have worked towards this moment for a decade.

Here's what they said about why this change is so needed 👇

Since the ban on ‘no fault’ evictions was first promised in 2019, over 100,000 private tenants have had their lives torn up by a Section 21 eviction.

Renters need to know when the ban will actually come into force. It can't come soon enough.

Spring cleaning the office and so pleased to be able to throw out a no longer relevant banner… once it comes into force in the coming months, notice periods will double under the Renters’ Rights Act if a landlord evicts to sell their home or move themselves or a family member in!

REMINDER:

Check your local council website to see if your landlord needs a licence, and has got one. If they haven’t you could claim back up to 12 MONTHS of rent and be PROTECTED from a Section 21 Eviction!
New - Harvey & Wheeler, the estate agents used by Rachel Reeves to rent out her property have apologised for an "oversight" after they did not apply for a licence on her behalf, having offered to do so.

A brilliant event with brilliant people, thanks for bringing us all together @rentersreformco.bsky.social!
We had a fantastic time marking the passing of the Renters' Rights Act at our event in Parliament yesterday 🎉

It was a chance for renters, politicians, and colleagues across the housing sector to celebrate the monumental wins we've fought for over many years.

Selective licensing is used by councils to improve housing standards for renters. When someone as senior as the Chancellor fails to comply, in undermines the entire system.

Leadership means setting an example.

Homes are the foundations of our lives. Evictions shatter those foundations.

Last night the Renters' Rights Act became law, paving the way for the end of S21 evictions.

The Government must bring in the changes ASAP to prevent more renters like Christina experiencing this turmoil.

We did it! More than a decade of campaigning led to this moment.

The most heartfelt thank you to every supporter, employee, volunteer, funder and ally of @generationrent.bsky.social. It certainly hasn’t been easy, but together we’ve secured the biggest reforms to private renting in a generation!
The Renters’ Rights Act is NOW LAW!

Soon S21 evictions, which have forced millions of people out of their homes for no reason & with just 2 months notice, will be a thing of the past.

This is what our movement can achieve when we stand together.

UPDATE: We did it!

The Renters’ Rights Bill has now PASSED through the House of Commons! We expect it to reach Royal Assent shortly.

This is a huge win after years of campaigning by renters. There's more to do, but this is worth celebrating!
