Spring cleaning the office and so pleased to be able to throw out a no longer relevant banner… once it comes into force in the coming months, notice periods will double under the Renters’ Rights Act if a landlord evicts to sell their home or move themselves or a family member in!

"Today is a momentous day" says Housing Minister @matthewpennycookmp.bsky.social, rightly proud of the Renters' Rights Bill as it passes its final hurdle without needing a vote.

Waiting for the King's signature in next week or so, when date will be set for ban of Section 21 'no fault' evictions!

Great to take part in a number of events last week at #LabourConference.

This one hosted by @labourhousinggroup.bsky.social was a highlight, where MPs @naushabahkhanmp.bsky.social & @joepowell.bsky.social promised to stand up for the Renters’ Rights Bill and resist all attempts to water it down.

Pleased to meet with Minister @matthewpennycookmp.bsky.social today and hear directly of his continuing commitment to getting the Renters’ Rights Bill passed into law, so we can finally end the nightmare that is Section 21 no-fault evictions.

Need the House of Lords to help move this along now!

Pleased to be part of so many conversations around housing at #LabourConference.

This morning I’ve asked questions of MPs @lukemurphy.bsky.social, @florenceeshalomi.bsky.social, Joe Powell and Londons Deputy Mayor @tomcopley.bsky.social about renters’ rights and the cost of renting.

Today we visited Downing Street to deliver a message from our supporter Bridget and 56,792 people for the Prime Minister…

Limit rent rises now!

"The more people unable to cover their rent with local housing allowance, the more people are in temporary accommodation."

Today I gave evidence in parliament on behalf of @generationrent.bsky.social, sharing here Policy in Practice's findings that inadequate social security fuels homelessness.

I’ll always be a friend to our wonderful trails, and look forward to seeing NTUK continue to play a vital role for many decades to come. To celebrate my final month as a trustee I visited the South Downs Way at the weekend for a whopping 32km loop hike at the Seven Sisters. [3/3]

Welfare cuts impact assessment, written by the government themselves, finds they would drive 250,000 more people into poverty, including 50,000 children.

Unthinkably cruel. Pushing people into poverty doesn't help them to escape it. Never has, never will. #SpringStatement

Could rent be waived for evicted tenants? A Welsh Parliament Committee backed @genrentuk's call for it to be looked into, and @WelshGovernment just agreed to do so.

This would protect renters from poverty and homelessness when they face eviction through no fault of their own.

It was a pleasure speaking at the Housing Law Conference last week - thank you to all the legal experts doing what they can to help tenants when the odds are stacked against us!

Great to be working together to support better laws that shift the balance of power in our homes.

Really pleased Children’s Minister Janet Daby is looking at barriers to care leavers renting homes.

I asked if local councils could be given a duty to act as guarantors for care-experienced young people, which @generationrent.bsky.social have been campaigning with NYAS & Barnardo’s for.

“We are ending no-fault evictions!” says the Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer at #LabourConference.

So pleased this is a central part of the new government’s better deal for renters.
